Which candidate would cut your taxes?

posted Sep 1, 2008 - 5:26:07pm

Editor, The Beacon:

We’re often hurt less by what we don’t know than by what we believe we do know, but that just ain’t so.

A crucial example is Americans’ (mis)understanding of the presidential candidates’ tax proposals.

According to a recent Gallup poll, 53 percent of Americans wrongly believe Obama would raise their taxes, while 34 percent wrongly believe McCain would not.

A reason for the general misunderstanding is that tax policy is incredibly complicated. A reason for the perceived difference between the candidates is that the McCain campaign has been spreading deceitful insinuations about Obama.
