Is bad economic news the ONLY thing that will decide the election for Obama? |
|
It sure shouldn't be.
And, it probably will be.
Even stupid people have to eat. Even stupid people need to see a doctor when they're sick. Even stupid people need to heat their homes when it's freezing outside.
And, sadly, even stupid people will vote against Obama's re-election after his administration has started to reverse the damage done by Cheneybush.

1. It's not a bad issue to run on. |

Hell, the Great Depression made the Democratic Party for all intents and purposes.

But there are SO many more glaring reasons to vote Decmoratic this time, I'm dismayed that it takes an economic meltdown to swing things our way. What has our country come to that the overwhelming obvious negatives of the McFailin' ticket aren't enough to have this election already locked up and a done deal by now?

3. There's a very good chance yes. |

...and I agree it is sad. But as cold as it might be to say... I'll take the win.

5. Since 1900, it takes a shitload of BAD things for the Democrat to win. |
|
Either that, or other interesting circumstances.
1912: Woodrow Wilson wins after Teddy Roosevelt pulls Republicans from Taft to the Bull-Moose ticket.
1932: Great Depression
1948: Truman narrowly wins.
1960: According to some, questionable balloting in Illinois provides a narrow victory.
1976: Backlash from Watergate.
1992: Ross Perot and rough economic circumstances.
And here we are again, on the cusp of more bad economic times. Will things get bad enough for us to win?

6. I could say the same thing the other way. |

Republicans won in 1920 due to a bad economy and a perceived failure of foreign policy. In 1952, they won because they ran the hero of WWII and the country was disatisfied with the Korean War. 1968, I need not explain that one. 1980, hyperinflation and the Iranian Hostage Crisis. 2000, well that WAS dumb.

7. That's an even MORE cynical question than mine! LOL |

It begs the question whether the only way for a Democrat to get elected president is for Republican administrations to fuck things up SO badly that even the American voter can't stand it any more. Then, as soon as things get better, they opt for more punishment from the Republicans again? Talk about a nation in dire need of collective psychoanalysis!
