Alaska took the exact same amount of federal money with or without the bridge. The only difference is that the money didn't go to the bridge.
What DID it go to? No one seems to be asking that. In fact no one seems to be pointing out that AK got the BTN money anyway. They're focusing on the flippage, which is valid, but misses the whole picture.
(FWIW I thought the furor over the BTN was unfounded. AK is an expensive state, because it's big and cold. When you have to take a ferry to go between a major state city and its own airport, that seems like an infrastructure problem to me. Then again maybe you should pay for it yourself...)
