Democrat VS Democratic
Why do the RW talkers (and McClame) intentionally always leave off the "ic" when talking about a Dem?? Is it supposed to be a slight, or is it a way to disassociate the Democratic process from the party?

1. A BIG BIG pet peeve of mine!!!
They want to insult and demEan our party. It is DEFINITELY a slight. And they also don't like the idea that the name of the party could be associated with anything good like democracy.

So heed this, people, and DON'T ADOPT THEIR TERMINOLOGY. We just threw out a FREE bumpersticker we got from the DNC because it said "vote Democrat". I wish the members of our own party wouldn't do that.

And while I'm on my soapbox, it's "anti-choice", not "pro-life" for those assholes.

2. Bush has been informed repeatedly that it's a barb. he used it....
in the State of the Union and did a 'oh gosh... I didn't know' line. They later it appeared on the the Whitehouse website.

4. Republicans want to dissociate our party from the positive value of the adjective.
Just nasty right wing smearing. They've kept it up for a long time. Reporters who listen to too much right wing crap forget and use that word sometimes.

They want you to be peeved.

6. A person is a Democrat, in all other instances Democratic is the right form
The Republs uses Democrat Party as a slight, because it sounds harsher. It doesn't do much more than show off their ignorance of English.

One Dem congressman has made a point of calling them the Republic Party, but I prefer to go one step further and call them Republs.

7. Childish Republicans have been doing it for six decades.
I believe Joseph McCarthy was among the early adopters. More recently Bob Dole complained of "Democrat wars."

9. "Democrat" is a noun. "Democratic" is an adjective. Here's what
happens when you do the same thing to another noun and adjective:

"Ed is a Jewish banker." Correct, like "Ed is a Democratic politician."
"Ed is a Jew banker." Incorrect and insulting like "Ed is a Democrat politician."

The later is not only grammatically incorrect, it is clearly meant to be insulting and demeaning. Hitler used that approach to demeaning Jews, it's only natural that Republicans would use the same technique to demean Democrats.

11. A slur::: from the wiki
"There’s no great mystery about the motives behind this deliberate misnaming. 'Democrat Party' is a slur, or intended to be – a handy way to express contempt. Aesthetic judgments are subjective, of course, but 'Democrat Party' is jarring verging on ugly. It fairly screams 'rat.'" <1>

13. Of course it is a slur. It enables them to define the totality of the person as
one thing that they hate.

Simply substitute the words Jew and Jewish.

"My JEW friend" vs. "my Jewish friend." See?
