Sarah Palin is a geek
I've been trying to find a way to pigeonhole Sarah Palin -- as have everyone. And, I've finally decided that she is basically a geek.

Now, don't confuse that with the good geek -- the person in your company or circle of friends who you like to make fun of, but who saves your ass when your computer screws up.

I'm talking about the old-fashioned geek -- the circus geek. This was a person -- usually chemically dependent or mentally deficient (probably both) and down on his luck -- who would perform bizarre acts such as biting the heads off live chickens. People could become bored with acrobats and somnolent caged tigers, but loved to crowd around and watch the geek. It was a big draw for seedy traveling shows, and provided a distraction and fascination for the rubes whose lives were boring.

This is Sarah Palin's role. You had this somnolent John McCain, a tired, boring old man peddling shopworn talking points to an ever-shrinking base.

Enter: Sarah Palin.

Unqualified for any post higher than mayor of Wasilla -- and perhaps not even that -- she brought a bizarre sideshow quality to a seedy traveling circus. Think of all the qualities attributed to her -- a pitbull in lipstick, able to field-dress a moose, high-altitude hunter, wacko religious nut, mean streak a mile wide. She's not a candidate, as much as a sideshow.

No matter what they say, people aren't coming out because Palin has any qualifications. They're coming out because she's a freak, a sideshow, something they've never seen before.

Her speech before the RNC was the political equivalent of biting a head off a live chicken -- bizarre, but not enlightening, and something that required no particular talent beyond reading someone else's words off a teleprompter without stumbling too badly.

They talk about the "spur" it's given to McCain, but it really hasn't. McCain is a failure without her at his side to distract the rubes. Look no further than the Florida rally where the stadium was virtually empty -- 4 sections filled out of 45 -- because the somnolent, failed politician appeared without his quirky circus geek.

The biggest insult to the American people -- and to us -- is that we even have to discuss this woman at all for more than five minutes.

The danger is that, in this bizarro world in which we live, the circus geek could end up as president.

9. I like to let our gay friends know that I'm "taking that word back".
It's gonna mean a freak who does disgusting and inhumane things with living poultry for the amusement of rubes...and I'm not gonna feel bad calling a Republican that...ever.

That's what I think of FReeps.

15. Who has heard of a circus geek? When people hear Geek they think smart.
Why in the heck would we want to help her sell the fake image she is trying to create?

17. As an electrical engineer, I'm offended

You can't spell "geek" without EE.

Sorry, I have known geeks most of my adult life, and have been a geek myself.

Sarah Palin is no geek.
