New Rasmussen Reports Party Weighting Targets: 38.7% Democrat 33.6% Republican |
|
The tell? They sneak in the phrasing in Party = Democrat (read: Democrat Party)
Should read Party Weighting Targets: 38.7% Democratic 33.6% Republican (read: Democratic Party)
Whenever someone uses "Democrat Party", it's a tell that they are RWers. Doesn't Joe Lieberman use that phrase now?
Not to mention that these figures themselves are questionable.

Good catch. I just posted about Scotty, because he has battleground state polls coming out tonight, at about 6 PM Eastern, I think. He's gaming the numbers again, as always.

2. They're monkeying with the numbers, and admitting it too |

+8 or +9 Democratic would be more accurate.

7. The party ID gap HAS narrowed |
|
I hate to be the cynic here, but I have some inside knowledge and know that Democratic pollsters are finding the same thing...Republicans are narrowing the party ID gap. It's not a conspiracy.

10. Since the GOP convention |
|
The theory is that more people now see the GOP as the party of McCain instead of the party of Bush, and are more comfortable identifying with a party that has McCain as its standard-bearer.
Plus, there were probably also some disaffected voters on the far right who called themselves independent because they thought the Republican Party under McCain was not right-wing enough (the same way some Democratic voters to the left of the party call themselves Greens or Independents) but are now coming home as a result of Palin and identifying as Republicans again.

I know that what you've said is the key rightwing talking point about the Spasmussen ID shifts, and I'm not accusing you of spreading the lies. I'm just saying that it doesn't make any sense. I can buy a small - - very small - - shift in favor of the Republicans from their convention, for the reasons you set out.
However, Razzy has changed the party ID in the Rethugs' favor TWICE since the conventions ended. Moreover, are we to believe that there was no similar "coming home" phenomenon with Democrats as a result of the DNC?
It's just not credible, and no one except Razzy is doing it, making it suspect.

12. The adjective "Democratic" has a positive connotation. To use |
|
the term "Democrat" avoids implying anything good about the Democratic Party.

14. Democrat part is worse than neutral |
|
The party's members are called Democrats. Calling it the Democrat party implies that it is a party that simply exists to benefit its members. Actually, this would be a more apt understanding of the term Republican party, but it's not interpreted that way because it has an adjectival ending.
