Palin Outlines Four-Point Focus In McCain Administration

Says She'll Focus On Energy, Reform, Special Needs Care, And Disease Cures

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

(GOLDEN, COLO.) - For the first time since joining the Republican ticket, Sarah Palin outlined the issues she would focus on in a John McCain administration.

“John and I have worked out a plan—what I want to concentrate on and what he would like to kind of tap into me to help with, Palin said at a rally in front of a few thousand people here. “My mission is going to energy security and government reform. And another thing near and dear to my heart, it’s going to be helping families who have special needs and children with special needs. And we’re going to be pushing for innovative cures for diseases.”

by laying of hands, or practicing medicine without a license? Or perhaps witch doctoring (for which she is sadly unqualified I'm sure)

9. Sarah Palin misleads about how much energy Alaska produces...
...not someone I want handling energy policy.

======================================
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/energetically_wrong.html

Palin claims Alaska "produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy." That's not true.

Alaska did produce 14 percent of all the oil from U.S. wells last year, but that's a far cry from all the "energy" produced in the U.S.

Alaska's share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent, according to the official figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

36. And all of that is sold to Japan
I think that hardly any of the Alaskan oil is used in the US. More drilling in Alaska will do nothing for "energy independence"--but it will make her oil and gas buddies a huge amount of profit, and more revenues for the citizens of Alaska.

11. The woman doesn't believe in evolution
She couldn't even understand antibiotics, much less "disease cure." How can we put somebody who doesn't believe in modern science in charge of 'disease cure." Will she politicize the funding at the NIH? The NSF?

It's completely atrocious.

28. Yes, it is my crackpot theory that most Americans feel in their gut....
...that Sarah Palin is running for First Lady and not VP.

Notice we do not see a lot of Cindy any more. I seriously think that one way they've sold people on Palin as a 'celebrity' whose qualifications are irrelevent is by implying every which way they can that she's not _really_ going to be holding a government office after this is all over, and casting her as First Lady rather than a running mate is part of that. She's about the right age (viz., 30-odd years younger than him, which would make her the perfect age for a trophy wife) and the whole "mom" persona plays into that as well (especially when she's literally holding a baby). I honestly think a lot of American media consumers haven't really 'gotten it' yet that she's going to be given actual power if this ticket wins the election.

C ya,

17. So: 1) "Drill, Baby, Drill!" 2) Fight pork (if it becomes political poison). 3) Cut special needs...
... funding by 67%. 4) I don't know... ummm... laying on of the hands?

That's basically been her approach to those 4 issues in Alaska.

39. Funding
Has anyone called her out yet on the 62% or 67% (I read 62% previously but close enough) CUT in "special needs care" that she approved as Governor?

Gee, what changed? NOW it's a different story because it affects HER?

19. Ever hear of....
March of Dimes
Easter Seals
MDA?......

There's big money in those non-profits these days.
They are going to try to keep health care privitized by focusing on non-profits. We have seen this before. Do not underestimate. Just make sure we know we have a better solution, what it is, and why.

I suggest watching the AAPD forum at disaboom.com. The mother was a big Republican. She was one who believed "if my son can anyone can, all of these other people out here are lazy."

Don't forget that the non profits offer a tax deduction every year. That's what this is all about, ya know.

25. Disease cures? I'm one physician who isn't too thrilled about a D student
digging in my garden.

Please, send us somebody who knows something about....something.

But I have to ask how in hell is she going to "push for innovative cures" for anything? I seriously suspect she hasn't the faintest clue about how Biomedical research is funded or performed in this country. Seriously, what are her credentials to all of a sudden be the "special needs and cure for diseases czar"? I'm sorry but not using birth control at age 44 isn't much of a qualification.

Hell, if her first big medical decision was to sit on her broken bag of water for 26 hours, then god help those with serious diseases.

26. Also, I have to ask, and this is earnest...is there a huge catastrophic
problem with the education and care of special needs children?

In every community I've lived in there are tons of services, which usually came to be because of LIBERALS.

Couldn't she focus on an area where we are having a crisis or a looming catastrophe?

She's running for VP, not First Lady.

First, we have a Secretary of Energy. Next, we have a Surgeon General.

So, I'm missing something. Won't she have enough to do keeping abreast of Senate activities???

Or is this another indication that she still doesn't know what a VP does?

I saw her give this speech this morning. She conflated a chromosomal abnormality with a disease. In other words, she called Down's Syndrome a disease. I also think she realized she had done this but it was too late to take it back so she went with it.

innovative
adjective: being or producing something like nothing done or experienced or created before

Well, thank goodness, that eliminates praying.
