You see, the Democrats simply assumed that a sentient being would be able to differentiate between the noun "Democrat" and the adjective "Democratic", so they named their party "The National Democratic Party of the United States". Sadly, just look at the difficulty this distinction poses for Republicans today. But, here's where their genius reveals itself. The original Republicans knew that there was no fucking way that anyone stupid enough to swallow the happy horseshit they would be offering up as "policy", would ever be able to distinguish between parts of speech. Therefore, their party founders selected the hermaphroditic term "Republican", which could go either way, and PRESTO, their idiot adherents would have one less thing with which to tax their feeble little minds. Genius, I tell you, genius!
