Look at the big picture today folks, only TWO pieces of information resonate from today's news cycle
1. Lehman Bros. and Merrill Lynch troubles.

2. McCain's "fundamentals are still strong" gaffe concerning #1.

Obama won today's news cycle... big... and he didn't have to do anything related to the reasons he won.

Today, reality bit McCain and the GOP in the butt.

Then McCain poured salt on that butt-wound.

This makes 4 or 5 straight days when we've won the news cycle. The tracking polls have tightened up in the case of the two GOP leaning ones (Gallup and Rasmussen both down to McCain by 2) and the others have us ahead.

Today's news, plus the great weekend we had (thanks SNL and Sunday Morning talk shows!), will begin to show up in the tracking polls around Thursday and Friday.

Nobody is watching MSNBC during the day (typically less than half-a-million viewers during the day), so whatever "spin" they are putting on Today's events is meaningless.

1. McCain used that "fundamentals are strong" line in
Jacksonville. . By the time he got to Orlando, he'd gotten a memo..

First he redefined "fundamentals" to mean the good old can-do spirit of the American worker and the small business owners.. THEN he started lambasting Wall Street and the CEO's and hollared that "regulators have been asleep at the switch". . (you know, the regulators that his Secy of Treasury Gramm de-funded and fired)

Guess which speech they'll be showing clips of tonight..

Oh ps.. He also used the phrase "Enough is enough"

2. Well, Chris Matthews kept repeating the "fundamentals are strong" line...
...and compared him 5 or 6 times to Herbert Hoover. He talked to Chuck Schumer who basically said "This is the republicans fault for deregulating everything".
