The McCain Health Care Platform. Do you know |
|
he wants to encourage employers to stop providing Health Insurance to employees? I wasn't even aware of this until this morning when I happened onto a comparison of Obama's and McCain's Plans on the internets. It said the average employer pays out $12000 a year for employees health benefits and McCain wants to tax that as (income). It said that it would be offset by a $5000 tax credit if you buy insurance on your own. The average employer pays $12000 a year for insurance for a group plan. So if they drop your insurance McCain will give you a $5000 tax credit to buy it on your own. If an employer has to pay $12000 on a group plan how in the hell much is insurance going to cost an individual. Even if you could find insurance for the $5000 that's a $7000 difference according to my math. Talk about Bush fuzzy math McCain has him beat by a mile. I can't believe the Obama Campaign and especially the Unions aren't hammering the shit out of that crazy plan 24/7.

1. Steel Workers Union put out a statement today. |
|
Obama and Biden both are talking about it during their stump speeches.

4. I am a member of the Steel Workers Union, I am glad they |
|
discovered it. I haven't seen any evidence outside of their Steel Labor magazine that the Union is giving Obama much backing. I haven't seen anything on the bulletin board or received any mail about the Obama campaign.

12. I know that but they better get their ass out of |
|
office and educate the membership. It doesn't make much difference who the desk jockeys endorse. The membership will vote for McCain unless someone hammers the truth into their heads. Judging from my co-workers McCain is going to take the rank and file vote.

2. None of the plans from either camp seem viable to various degrees. |
|
The workable plan is HR676 or covering everyone with an improved and extended Medicare, yet it's lying around Congress and no one is looking at it.

If you do take the employers' insurance, it will be fully TAXABLE. You will be paying income taxes on that $12,000 benefit. What this amounts to is a TAX INCREASE for the middle class. We need to hammer that point.
Also, if you have any pre-existing conditions, you are screwed. Let's say you are a cancer survivor like him, who is going to underwrite your policy?

8. I have a bunch of typical medical conditions |
|
which are easily controlled by good medical care and daily meds. If I keep on top of it, I'm fine. But if I don't, I would end up in the emergency room. And, unlinke McCain's advisor, I don't consider that "being insured."

6. And there's no provision in McCain's plan that would force insurers |
|
to issue policies to people with pre-existing conditions. If McBush suddenly found himself without health insurance, he would not be able to buy another policy at any price because of his medical history. (Of course, he does have that $100,000,000 nest egg to draw from, so it's not like he'd be begging for state assistance like the rest of us.)

Individual costs a hell of a lot more for less coverage IF you can get it.

First of all, how is a family going to afford to buy insurance out of pocket and then wait for a $5K tax credit? Answer: the majority cannot.
