A few question about Reagan Democrats.
1. What is a Reagan Democrat?

2. Are there any Reagan Democrats here at DU?

3. If so, what was it about Ronald Reagan that was so appealing to you?3

Just curious! Because to me, the man is far too overrated as a president.

I imagine that a lot of those who voted for Reagan are dead like he is now.

3. I've never met one. The people I know who voted for Reagan
were Repubs before and after the Reagan years. Supposedly they were blue-collar white voters who were very unhappy with the problems of the Carter years (inflation, energy, hostages in Iran).

4. a really dumb phrase
Most people who supported Reagan and can still vote today are 90% Republican.

I suppose the other 10% have seen the light.

6. Reagan Democrats were liberals who started making money and 11% inflation scared them.
They voted their pocketbooks and not their principles.

Much to the dismay of the rest of us.

7. I would have considered myself one many years ago...
after I became a Dem.

I switched parties because of the contract with America that Newt and his bunch put out. It really disgusted me. I was somewhat conservative and in the Army at the time. Part of my time in the military was under Reagan's watch. We made more money, got better housing and the benefits were improving. That and Reagan's ability to inspire people is why I called myself a Reagan Democrat at the time. Love him or hate him...the man could deliver a speech. Not many could. I attribute that to the reason why he is considered a good president by a lot of folks...despite his horrible policies.

I'm a full on flaming lib now. :)

8. Thank you so much for that in-site!
I have been hearing so much about the Reagan Dems, and I have never met one. I was starting to believe that they(you) have gone by the way of the unicorn.

However, growing up, I grew up on the opposite end of the improvements. Having community programs shutdown, and money leaving our accounts.

9. I have to admit I was a Reagan Democrat (the first time only)....
I got caught up in the whole charisma thing. But when my daughter came home and complained that Reagan had declared ketchup a vegetable, that was it for me.
