Awesome letter from GOP woman in today's paper
Palin choice disappointing

As a life-long Republican and a woman, I am thrilled to see women elevated as government leaders. However, the choice of Sarah Palin is deeply disappointing, and I am shocked by McCain's poor judgment. Pitbull Palin has bluster and baggage.

I, at least, have a passport and a law degree but hail from the cosmopolitan areas of Los Angeles and New York, which might be why I never got considered.

Isn't it great to know that gunning down a defenseless moose is a plus for the presidency? Or that after dropping a Down syndrome baby a few months ago, you can be an expert on children with special needs — even if that child is raised 800 miles away from your office.

The hubris of believing that just any woman on the ticket will rally women hopefully proves fatal. Fortunately, I have choices, and will vote Democratic for the first time just shy of my 60th birthday — because the Democrats are focused on the issues America desperately needs now, such as health care and the economy.

Joe Biden could run the country if necessary. He knows what a vice president's job is.

3. I'm a vegan, but...
...I still find it strange that the woman who wrote that letter cares more about an innocent moose being shot than about all the innocent people in Iraq who had bombs dropped on their houses by the US because a tipster told the US military that a terrorist lived there.

8. The reference was to Sarah Palin's moosehunting as a qualification

I don't know that Sarah Palin has bombed any houses yet, but I'll look into it.

9. She said no such thing.
she did not say she cares more about a moose than people. You said she said that. What you infer was not implied. Geez.

It was a great letter, and there was one like it in my local paper this weekend, devoid of moose shooting references. Palin is very off putting to many of the people who are supposed to be in the bag for her.

15. Those concerns are not mutually exclusive. If anything, the reverse has been
found to be true.

11. No, Palm Springs is kind of blue
They have a gay mayor -- who succeeded a black, gay mayor. The gay population is close to 40 percent.

On the other hand, Rancho Mirage, where this woman comes from is very, very red. With a capital R. About 85 percent of the people in RM live in gated communities. The average age is 67. And, for six months out of the year, it is the richest zip code in the country.

17. My bad
Thanks for pointing that out. When I say "Palm Springs" I am talking about the whole desert area out there. Won't do that in the future.

12. Why should I pay any more attention to this
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 05:14 PM by raebrek
Then I do the articles that start saying, "I'm a life long Democrat". I don't believe either of them when they say they are now having an epiphany and crossing party lines.

Raebrek!!!

quick edit to add what I am saying is that I don't believe they were life long in the party they claim to be life long in.

14. It's easy enough to check
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 05:20 PM by nichomachus
voter registrations are public records. If this weren't true, the local GOP would be all over it in a heartbeat. It's one thing to say it on an Internet board, where everyone is anonymous anyway. It's another thing in a local newspaper in a small town. In fact, I'm willing to bet they've already looked her up.

16. I guess I fall back to the old fisherman's saying.
At least it was a fisherman when I heard it and I am not directing this at you personally but the lines I see about life long what evers specifically.

All fisherman are liars except you and me and sometimes I wonder about you.

Raebrek!!!

21. Well, I did some checking
and the woman who wrote the letter is on the library board of directors. So, I imagine her political affiliation would be pretty well known around town.

20. You take it for what it is. A letter from an RNC voter more impressed with a Dem than a Repub
I don't think anyone is asking you to pay more or less attention to anything. It's one of many anecdotal lttes being published lately.

I do believe some may be having an 'epiphany' and will cross party lines. After 8 very long years of Bush*, an old colleague of mine is crossing over - convinced, as he says, if anything, his vote for Obama will cancel out some idiot's vote for McCain.

22. "...and tell me, everything...gonna be alright....."
"Danny's Song"

People smile and tell me I'm the lucky one,
And we've only just begun.
Think I'm gonna have a son.
He will be like she and me, as free as a dove,
Conceived in love.
Sun is gonna shine above.

And even though we ain't got money,
I'm so in love with you, honey,
And everything will bring a chain of love.
And in the morning, when I rise,
You bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be alright.

Seems as though, a month ago, I was Beta-Chi,
Never got high.
Oh, I was a sorry guy.
And now, I smile and face the girl that shares my name.
Now I'm through with the game.
This boy will never be the same.

And even though we ain't got money,
I'm so in love with you, honey,
And everything will bring a chain of love.
And in the morning, when I rise,
You bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be alright.

Pisces, Virgo rising is a very good sign,
Strong and kind,
And the little boy is mine.
Now I see a family where the once was none.
Now we've just begun.
Yeah, we're gonna fly to the sun.

And even though we ain't got money,
I'm so in love with you, honey,
And everything will bring a chain of love.
And in the morning, when I rise,
You bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be alright.

Love the girl who holds the world in a paper cup.
Drink it up.
Love her and she'll bring you luck.
And if you find she helps your mind, better take her home.
Don't you live alone.
Try to earn what lovers own.

And even though we ain't got money,
I'm so in love with you, honey,
And everything will bring a chain of love.
And in the morning, when I rise,
You bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be alright.

19. I have heard some complaints from GOP women about Palin.
The consensus being that McCain should have picked someone with actual credentials (like Hutchison) rather than someone who looks good and who shot a moose once.
