Obama has a problem

He is too honest. Unlike the rest of the lying politicians, Obama really tries to tell the truth, as he sees it.

Every time he does, he leaves himself open to those who are after him. Its how we've trained our politicians to be: always on guard, always deflecting.

Witness Obama's recent exchange with Stephie on ABC's This Week @ Sept 1, 2008. Stephie asked Obama what he thought about McCain and bringing Obama's religion into the race.

Obama said that Mc hadn't talked about Obama's Muslim faith.

Well, that was the truth. But as it turned out all that was heard by millions was: Obama has a Muslim faith.

Obama should have said that Mc is a fine man and would never stoop so low as to bring religion into politics.

That would have been a lie, but Obama would have deflected any further talk about his religion.

Too damn honest. he needs to learn how to tell white lies.

14. Problem is...
...all those who are against Obama. They heard what he said and went off with their worst fear re-affirmed.

Had Obama just deflected the question the damage would not have been done. I got it right off, I knew what he said and why he said it, and listened to his correction, but it was too late for most voters.

The the other day I heard someone stumble around how Obama said something about sex education. Gawd, don't even put the two terms into the same sentence or mention Obama if you do!

Its not real DUers who are the problem, it's the idiots out there just looking for any reason to find fault. We gave them several.

16. It is called
Real Politics.

Never, ever, especially on TV, offer up any thing that can do you harm. The subject matter of Obama's religion sets off alarm bells with a fair majority of the voting public and such a subject should just be shunted aside. As he did for so long. But Stephie drug him into it.

Don't get me wrong. I like Obama's promise. I've just seen too many politicians hung out to dry by misstatements that are misconstrued. He needs to be more careful.

22. Of course it was a slip
Thing is that he should have avoided any comment or lied and said MC wouldn't bring religion into the race. Would have praised him and cut MC all at the same time.

12. Creative?
Everyone can take a dump. So can you.

Instead of replying with any intelligence you take a dump. Hope you're proud of yourself. I'm not.

And while I'm at it, if you cannot tell the difference between a misstatement and the truth, I feel sorry for ya.

I'm surprised you can type.

17. ny
I'd bet that were Obama to have it to do over... and he will, he'd best just not reply to such traps.

It was an honest mistake. And one would think that saying Obama is too honest would be taken with the intent it was given in that it implies he is far more honest than most politicians. Alas, even here some are knee-jerking over my advice/concern.

10. That's fine, the world is seeing what snarling, smirking nasty-ass *dis*honesty has wrought
An alternative vote for honesty will be for many the easiest choice they will ever be asked to make :kick:

21. Which was partly my point
Thanks bridgit for getting it. He is unlike any other. He is a real change from what we are used too.

And that is what Obama is all about. It is just that sometimes he is too honest. Too honest for most of America? Maybe.

Saying Obama is too honest? That he is unlike other politicians who lie left and right?

Gawd, we have some bad ass knee-jerking going on here.
