Did Palin just unload a whopper -- Lied about the teleprompter going out during convention speech?
Palin and the Teleprompter

September 15, 2008 8:42 PM

At a fundraiser in Canton, Ohio, this evening, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin had an interesting description of her speech to the Republican convention.

“There Ohio was right out in front, right in front of me," Palin said. "The teleprompter got messed up, I couldn’t follow it, and I just decided I’d just talk to the people in front of me. It was Ohio.”

This struck many of us -- who, as she spoke, followed along with her prepared remarks, and noted how closely she stuck to the script -- as an unusual claim. (Especially those of my colleagues on the convention floor at the time, reading along on the prompter with her, noticing her excellent and disciplined delivery, how she punched words that were underlined and paused where it said "pause," noting that "nuclear" was spelled out for her phonetically.)

15. McCain campaign was pushing this myth as soon as her speech had ended.
It sounded like complete BS when I heard it, during MSNBC's coverage, but they just echoed it straight from the McCain campaign without ever verifying it independently.

2. palin thinks the truth and the facts are for those who aren't
as ambitious as her. If the lipstick is moving then the lies are pouring out.

4. Well, some of us were watching and could see on numerous occassions
that the teleprompter was working perfectly. Do not pass go.

16. Based on whose reporting? The only source for this story that I've seen ....

6. So Sarah Palin memorizes quotes from anti-semetic people who
advocated for the assasination of President Roosevelt?

9. I remember some fairly reliable source...
..... saying that there was a problem with the first line not being displayed properly on the teleprompter. Couldn't cite it for you though.

But even if she's NOT lying it would be the ONLY thing she's been truthful on in the last three weeks.

10. I saw the teleprompter working fine for her. If you saw the video on CNN online you can see
the movement, there's nothing wrong with it.

12. Didn't that actually happen to Bill Clinton?
She's like Reagan - remember how he once appeared to get a war movie he was in mixed up with the real thing? Now Palin heard Clinton once had to wing it when the teleprompter failed and she's convinced herself it happened to her.

13. It did happen to Bill Clinton and he just
kept going like nothing happened.

For all of his faults, Bill Clinton is brilliant.

17. The McCain campaign began spewing this story immediately after her speech at the convention.
And many reporters have debunked it, from what I understand. It's just another in a long line of lies and exaggerations intended to pad Palin's resume and make her seem more substantial than she is.
