You know the economic crisis has to making the republicans scared as hell. |
|
They find themselves between a rock and hard place.
If they keep the presidency, it's likely they are going to have to something to fix this fucking mess they made or their stupid gilded age ideas are going to be revealed for the unwashed bill of goods they are. Any attempt to fix this mess is going to be a radical retreat from their ideals to be even remotely successful, which is going to disenchant some of the Randian Darwinist economic fundamentalists.
If they lose the presidency, then we get to fix this fucking mess they made and make inroads into some of the idiocy they have subjected this nation too. And they will likely lose an entire generation who will remember them for the fuck-ups they are for the next few decades.
Not that I am at all sympathetic to the plight of the republican brand. Indeed, I find I can bear their misfortunes with enormous serenity.
It's a case where they've painted themselves into a corner.

5. I don't think the hard core group with their hands on the party steering wheel feel any dilemma |

They really, truly believe that the cure -- the only possible cure -- is more deregulation, and they are no doubt hunting around as I type for the the flimsiest bit of regulation or government policy or of unprivatized government property and services that they can blame for all of this.
They not only have no shame, they have no sense.
