Empty Seats Greet McCain at Florida Rally

Empty Seats Greet McCain at Fla. Rally

By Robert Barnes
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Republican presidential nominee John McCain held his first rally without running mate Sarah Palin today, and let's just say there were seats available.

The McCain "Road to Victory" rally was originally scheduled to be a pancake breakfast, but the campaign said there was such an outpouring of enthusiasm the event was shifted to the 15,000-seat Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

That might not have been the best idea: There were almost no supporters in any of the cavernous arena's 24 upper-level seating sections, and only eight of the 21 sections downstairs held fans. Only four of those were filled, though some supporters crowded around the stage on the arena floor.

McCain and wife Cindy made a point of thanking supporters for coming out on "a Monday morning'' for the 9 a.m. rally.

Hmmm ... no porcine-like self described canine thing with applied red waxy substance tagging along .... and it's back to empty seats again ....

I am guessing no one was impressed with Cindy's $400,000 gown at the RNC convention ...

Too bad for her ....

Looks like McLame can't pack em in on his own
What a dumb move, trying to fill a 15,000 seater. Only Barack can do that.

2. I'm just pleased
it cost them a pretty penny to rent that empty barn. Keep spending that money wisely, John.

9. My guess?
And this is a very scientific poll of one registered, likely voter? Some overeager staffer rented it in anticipation of a dual appearance, but the schedules changed, and if they moved it to a smaller arena, the reason would be obvious at this point, so they decided to take their lumps if they had to.

6. First rule of politics - undersize the venue

if you expect 100 get a room for 60 not 500

and so on.

This is the very first thing you learn on a campaign.

7. I'd like to see a pic of that fiasco.
Pathetic.

Porky Palin's "draw" ain't so hot either... the rally against her in Anchorage was 10 times bigger than the rally "for" her. 1000+ vs. 100.

They'e both frauds.
