This trumps "bittergate" any day, imo, with blue collar workers.

Look at how he wags his finger as he taunts American workers that they could not pick lettuce for a whole season (Note: McCain doesn't know wtf he is talking about anyway because almost all commercially grown lettuce is mechanically harvested. Hand harvesting is not cost effective).

2. I agree. Show's he is WAY out of touch. Would make a good attack ad even for Youtube
and get some airplay on TV. MAYBE moveon.org will grab ahold.

If it's great stuff, expect to see it hit the air during the final weeks. Not before.
Obama would never make the mistake of using up his best ammo when he can't see the whites of McLettuce's eyes.

This is even worse than the house thing.

5. K&R. This would be GREAT in a union's 527 ad--maybe SEIU?

6. Yep - I can see McPalin's numbers going down if that ad airs in a rust belt state.

7. I wonder the same thing, however he would have to tie that in with his meta-message
and that might be a bit of a contortion. I don't think it's enough for Obama to say... "see, John McCain disrespects you as hardworkers" but maybe it would work.

The other thing is that it brings up immigration issues, which creates ambivalence on both sides.

8. The worst part of that is that no human can do it but these argo-corps make
...illegal immigrants suffer for less than minimum wage and force them to do it or die. McCain backs that kind of human misery

10. $50 an hour for hand picking lettuce?
Is it really THAT hard? I mean, maybe it is, I don't know what's involved, but, he seems pretty confident that it can't be done, doesn't he? How did they pick lettuce before there was automated machinery?

13. I'm sure it is pretty hard and demanding work. No question. But with $100,000 in the bank
I think MANY Americans would be out there in the fields working hard for it.

14. He pulled the offer and the number out of his ass. Lettuce is not even picked by hand anymore for
the most part. It is picked mechanically by nearly all the big commercial growers. Hand picking is not cost effective.

16. This is McCain we are talking about.
He probably thinks illegals are also building lightbulbs and harvesting soygrum with a hatchet.

But I'm gonna K&R this too..

What a fucking (scuse the language)insult to the American worker.

I wonder if that offer still stands.

I was raised at an early age to work in the fields. My step dad was an immigrant and grew up working the fields.. actually, he was real good friends with Freddy Fender, they worked the fields together as kids... but anyways, he made us kids work the fields too.

I'd have no problem doing it again, sure, it sucks at first, but like any job, you get used to it.

Just like the many years I put into the packing houses.. hard work... sure, but you get used to it.

If he wants to pay me $50 an hour to pick lettuce, show me where to sign up.
