Today was a good day to be a Democrat and here's why |

1. The palin bubble has finally burst because the shine is starting to come off and they're losing cred fast and it's their fault for playing her so close 2. The mortgage meltdown gave Obama a chance to go after mcshit and finally take back the initiative 3. Biden is finally back in the fight and getting media attention 4. A new survey USA poll shows that Obama is up by 3 in VA which means that the gop convention bounce has officially worn off 5.Obama finally has an issue to beat mccain with (the economy) 6. Obama just raised $66 million and that plus the ground game should make the difference in the swing states

1. And if the polls are weighted to the R side |
|
I'd say that means we're ahead if we're tied. But that's just my two cents.
There's no way today didn't help Obama. The McCain campaign looked all scrambly today, and it showed. Even the media is having a hard time spinning this as anything but a huge crisis.

4. The $66 million dollar figure is actually a bit of a disappointment |
|
Obama's campaign had hoped to raise $200 million dollars to spend in the GE, and now with like 50ish days left that leaves him with like a $3 million dollar figure he has to earn every day to meet that goal.
Of course that number is a little bit unfair considering Obama's September numbers haven't been released yet, and the month is half over, so it's probably more like $2.5 million.
All we know about Obama's September fund raising is that he earned like $10 million dollars in one day after Palin got picked (or was it her speech at the convention?), and Obama has been asking for more money lately, showing he thinks he's falling behind his fund raising goals. I also read an article that tomorrow (Tuesday) he's expected to earn $9 million dollars at two LA fundraisers in just one night.
Those numbers we have for September so far are optimistic, if he can earn nearly $20 million dollars in just 2 days of the month, but he still has to earn over a million dollars every day to beat his largest fund raising record in a month (and he needs to to beat that $200 million dollar goal). Actually Obama probably needs to raise over $1.25 million a day to do that, or even $1.5 million to help push him closer to easily beating his $200 million goal in October and possibly getting over a quarter of a million dollars to spend in the GE if he's REALLY lucky.
