work for Delta and were forced to move to Atlanta a few years ago when they greatly reduced their presence in Portland OR. She had to have major back surgery two months ago, thanks to Delta redesigning their front ticket counters so the workers have to lift people's luggage onto the belt, twisting while they do it. (Where was OSHA?) She hasn't been able to work for months, and her husband has had to cut back to two days a week, in order to be home to help her and take care of their three-year-old.
Despite all that, they have just signed-up to go door-to-door for Obama; in Atlanta! I should also probably mention that the husband is racially Filipino. The three of them will have to go as a group. They are just so frightened by the prospect of what four more years of Republican rule will do to this nation, and the kind of world their daughter will have to live in.
I'm sharing this because I'm pretty proud of them, and as an illustration of what this election means to average Americans.
