Jewish voters in FL and PA getting polled by callers tying Obama to the PLO
(Palestine Liberation Organization)

Thankfully they are speaking out!

--------------
Jewish Voters Report Calls Disparaging Obama
\
— Jewish voters in Florida and at least one other state are being targeted by a telephone survey tying Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama to Palestinian causes, an advocacy group alleged Monday.

The Jewish Council for Education in Research says at least two women in separate states were push polled, or asked questions intended to influence voters while pretending to take a poll, on Sunday afternoon from a caller who said he was from Research Strategies.

Joelna Marcus says she became uncomfortable when the caller asked if she was Jewish, whether she was Orthodox and how often she attends synagogue.

The caller then asked if Marcus would be influenced if she learned that Obama had donated money to the Palestine Liberation Organization. The caller also asked how she would vote if she learned that someone on the Illinois senator's staff had close ties to Palestine.

Deborah Minden, who lives in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood in Pittsburgh received a similar call Sunday afternoon. After asking basic demographic information, Minden, 56, said the caller said, "I'm going to ask you some things about Sen. Obama and you tell me if it would make you more or less likely to vote for him."

The poller then ticked off a list of accusations including that Obama's church had made anti-Semitic statements and that Obama had met with Hamas leaders.

A spokesman for Sen. John McCain, who is on a two-day swing in Florida, did not immediately comment Monday night.

1. This after some Florida newspapers included an islamic terrorist DVD
as an insert over the weekend. This same DVD was inserted in many newspapers in many swing states. The DVD is called "Obsession - Radical Islam's War Against the West." It has been on cable, and I've seen a little of it. It is sickening and terrifying.

So now all the Republicans have to do is phone people and insinuate that Obama has ties to a terrorist group -- which of course is untrue -- but some voters will fall for it, especially after they watch the DVD and get frightened.

And the polls are suddenly showing a gain for McCain in some swing states. This is the reason why.

Republicans are so good at playing the fear card.

2. I think they are boardering on the edge of criminality.
I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing lawsuits aimed at the people behind these misleading activities.

3. It reminds me of 2004 when bushco went into the deep south and passed out fliers that said
John Kerry would burn their bibles, and had some weird pictures on the flyers.

They will stop at nothing.

10. In my swing state in '04, on the Sunday before the election,
disgusting anti-Kerry literature was placed on windshields of cars in parking lots of churches while church was in session. I think it was throughout the state.

7. Young children should NOT be exposed to this DVD. It gave me

chills and I had to change the channel when it was shown on cable. I was thinking that the newspapers who were paid to use this insert could be sued on that basis unless the DVD contains a prominent warning that it's unsuitable for children.

One newspaper in my state (a swing state) has either already included the insert or has agreed to do it in the future, and I will see what an attorney says about that.

4. The Columbus Dispatch had that DVD in it this week
I haven't watched it yet and wondered if it it's propaganda since it was shown on CNN and FOX.

I'm really tempted to cancel my Dispatch subscription because of it and tell them what they can do with the DVD.

8. Send the DVD to the Obama campaign.
If they are not aware of it they should be.

11. It's better to call the Obama campaign. At least call the nearest
Obama office. A list of all the offices are on the Obama website along with phone numbers.

16. I know. I wish there was too.
I'm following the story and just posting it whenever it comes up. Hopefully it will get around. I've been to some of the websites of newspapers who "gifted" their subscribers with this piece of tripe and the comments sections are full with people angrily canceling their papers over this. I can't believe print news would be so dumb to do this...aren't newspapers on life-support as it is?

We don't really get this in the UK and I suspect it would be illegal. (But we do get the lying tabloid press here!)

After reading your post, I went out to the curb to root through the recycled trash to find it. It was mixed in with the supermarket adds. This is the last straw for that rag.

that sees Palestinians as a sub-human species.

If you think Zionism is about a Jewish homeland, you are wrong! Modern Zionism is frighteningly similar to Christian Dominionism.

17. Not even close.
Only far left zealots, the ignorant, the stupid, and the bigoted spread the meme of "Zionism equals racism." If you think "modern Zionism is frighteningly similar to Christian Dominionism" then you really have no fucking clue what either of those things are.

19. Ironic.
In a thread about bullshit propaganda being used, you are doing the same. Since I have no clue what version you grew up with it is irrelevant, but to equate Zionism with racism is bigotry and should be unacceptable here. It is no different than saying those who support an independent Palestinian homeland embrace a racist philosophy.

25. Some forms of modern Zionism are just what you say. Most aren't.
As far as many people are concerned, Zionism just means thinking that Israel, as a Jewish homeland, should have the right to continue to exist.

Certainly there are some nuts (Jewish and Christian) who think Palestinians are subhuman or just bad, and that Israel is part of some Divine plan. But to say that this is the meaning of Zionism, is like saying that all pro-American people support the Ku Klux Klan or that all pro-British people support the British National Party or that all Muslims support terrorism.

32. Exactly! Thank you!
I am a member of ARZA (a large progressive Zionist group) and I am proud of it. There is no racism and no viewing Palestinians as subhumans. Unfortunately some use a broad brush out of ignorance.

33. In reality, it's a handful of paranoid Likudist fascists in Israel
and another handful of right wing Jews over here. They don't represent the majority of Jews on either side of the planet, yet they manage to remain in control of Israel, and through AIPAC, have way too much influence in our Congress.

Why is that the case?

Of course, I imagine people in most other countries are asking the same question about us, and how we allow the Bush Crime Family (and other assorted right wing lunatics) to remain in power when they obviously don't speak for most Americans. And it would be an equally valid question.
