Why is Obama/Biden in PA and CO and not OH, VA, NV, NM, MN
I mean, they're doing OK in PA and OH but could use some stumping in OH, VA, NV, NM, MN...

What am I missing here? They're only campaigning in states where they're already doing well?

I'm no campaign expert so can someone explain this?

23. Exactly, they are safe.
From the three weeks I spent in PA and four in CO since July, I'd say Obama has those states wrapped-up 3 to 1 or more. I didn't see a single McStain sticker or sign, and I didn't hear a single positive word about him in either place. Ever here in Seattle, home of some of the smartest and most liberal people in the country, I still run into a hateful Repuke every once in a while. I didn't in PA or CO.

37. Evidently
you weren't in the right place because Pa is going to be very tight. We lose one decent size city and Pa will go to McCain. A lot of racism in PA.

Although bi-locality has been offered as proof of sainthood...

No, they're not campaigning in states where they're doing well. Judging by what I hear on the radio here, the only election we're having in November is in California's 11th district.

11. Solidifying those two means we only need one more state to win
Holding PA is crucial, and winning CO is almost as important. And I'm guessing their internals are showing the same thing as the recent state polls - that support is slipping somewhat. A quick shoring-up action now lets them spend the final month going all-out for VA, OH, NM etc.

I'm no campaign expert, either, but that's what makes sense to me.

by the economy, and his speech was mostly on the economy.
And - what a day to do that! ouch.

It was really the perfect place for him to give that stump speech.

PA not so close, but you don't want to take stuff for granted. As far as the rest goes, he can't be everywhere at once and there's something to be said for momentum. I expect he'll be in all the battleground states several times between now and Nov.

30. Biden was in Charlotte NC a couple days ago, they're making the rounds...
much more time spent across this country than any candidates have in years, if I'm not mistaken. I've been watching this campaign and I have confidence they have a plan of attack that has them visiting certain states that are beneficial at certain times. Perhaps they're saving those states you've listed for closer to election day?

Those nine electoral votes could help decide this election.

He certainly needs to work on OH, VA, NV, etc, as well, but be patient, he'll get to them.

45. Obama is doing better in NM and MN than in CO
If he wins the states that Gore won in 2000 (all of which he's winning) plus CO and NH (which he's winning), there is an electoral college tie, which Obama will win because the election will go to the House. And he can do that without winning OH, VA or NV. So I can defend CO pretty well.

On the other hand, winning OH, VA or NV would be great and would certainly put him in good shape. I can't defend PA as well, but his lead isn't that big there, and it certainly wouldn't hurt to solidify his lead there. I'm sure he'll be campaigning more in OH, VA, and NV, and in MN and NM as well.

46. Because PA is essential, and Colorado, plus Iowa, plus NM
gives him an extra path to the nomination. New Mexico has been looking better for Obama than the others, plus I think they are banking on Richardson to be effective there. But right now, if he switches Colorado Blue and holds PA, Barack wins the election. He does need to go some work in Michigan and Minnesota to hold those, but McCain's bump didn't give him those states and I suspect since they are reliably Dem that Barack will naturally start putting those away over the course of this month and after the first debate.

But I believe that right now, he's focusing on PA and CO, but he'll start really hitting those others as well and soon.
