Sammy Hagar Just As Happy If Obama Used "Right Now"
On the whole McCain use of Van Halen's "Right Now" song ...

Sammy tells Rolling Stone magazine that he has been playing phone tag with Eddie Van Halen but he would like to talk to him about the situation, though Eddie may not like what he says. He tells the mag, “I was honored that a potential president of the United States used those words in a positive sense, like, ‘We gotta act now!'" He adds that he would also be just as happy if Barack Obama decides to play it. LINK: http://www.nationalledger.com/artman/publish/article_272622675.shtml

Not surprising that Hagar would be just as pleased if Obama used the song, as he is extremely torn when it comes to politics.

The video that played on the big screen during "Right Now" on the last Van Hagar reunion tour (in '04) featured a rather negative comment about George Bush that read something along the lines of Right Now some of us are having regrets, while an image of Bush in the Oval office was displayed.

This may have had something to do w/ the fact that Hagar's company is on record as giving the Bush campaign a contribution in January 2004, and Hagar regretted his company did so.

In December of 2004 Hagar posted a statement on his web site that stated he supports the troops, but doesn't support war or for anyone to take another person's life.

Besides the "Right Now" controversy that continues to boil, Hagar and Micheal Anthony have teamed up to put out a follow up song to Right Now called "Cosmic Universal Fashion."

In my personal opinion the song kicks ass.

Check it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETaA7yqj_3g

If you check out the video and pay attention to the images, I don't think a person can come to the conclusion that Hagar is exactly a card carrying Republican, as some people try to claim he is.

The Red Rocker can think, and while I don't know what eventual conclusion he'll come to before he walks into the voting booth, I am sure he'll give it a lot more thought than what people give him credit for.

Dana Rohrabacher is a piece of shit; Hagar giving money to him alone is enough for me.

Good thing you're not running for anything.

I guess everyone fits into a neat little peg hole with nowhere else to go.

I already stated that he gave to fucking shrub and then turned around and made a statement in the Right Now video shown on the big screen against shrub.

His last contribution on your little link was '03 ... that's not exactly yesterday.

Ya know, I wonder if you believe anything that our nominee says when Obama states that this isn't a red America, or a blue America, it's the United States of America.

I guess when it comes to you, there's no room in our party for Sammy Hagar????

Last time I checked Obama was courting everyone, not just Dems.

Did you even watch the video??? I just don't see a card carrying Republican when I look at the Red Rocker.

Ya know, even Dee Snider has backed people like Arnold, but Snider is an Independent. Snider has stated that he intends to vote for McSame, but who knows if he will until election day. I've listened to Dee Snider's podcasts and he's not a political person on a day to day basis. No doubt that Snider could change his mind too.

Many may not know that Snider doesn't believe an all powerful deity. Gee ... not exactly that perfect fit for the peg hole is he?

There's a lot of fucking people out there who are not set and nailed down to any one party. It's up to the politicians to get their votes.

Judging from Sammy's lyrics to a number of his songs, Hagar is not chiseled in stone in anyone's camp.

4. Sorry, but.....
You don't have to get so upset. Hagar just played a show during RNC week in Minnesota:

http://blogs.citypages.com/ctg/2008/09/old_glory_david.php

"He crossed himself, gulped from a keg cup of Cabo Wabo, and toasted to the RNC, and every hand presented him with affirmative thumbs."

Someone who has never given a dime to a democrat, and agreed to do a show for Repuublicans doesn't sound all the open-minded to me about Obama. Granted, I'm sure he got paid for the gig and he didn't outright endorse McCain. Yet, he was introduced as "a great Republican" and he never denied it. Just because he appears to be unhappy with Bush doesn't mean as much as that concert he did for the RNC.

10. RNC

Hagar played outside of the RNC.

Do you think that the members of Rage Against the Machine are declared Democrats because they played outside the DNC?

It was a gig for Hagar, that's pretty much it. He toasted the RNC as he would toast any event he was being payed to play at.

Besides ... would you call Stephen Colbert a Republican because he spoke at the White House correspondents dinner?

If you read your article a little closer, it kind of sounds to me that Hagar put off the crowd of rethugs during more than a couple moments in his show.

Good for Hagar!

Dee Snider has been on many lists of celebrity "Republicans," but Snider is an independent.

I noticed that in your article you linked to, it stated that after Hagar was introduced as a great republican, there was no fanfare.

I wonder why? I guess it's because in action and lyrically, Hagar is anything but a republican.

Whenever anyone of any celebrity status does anything near a Republican, the rethugs clammer to put their stamp on them because they have so few celebs who are fooled by their bullshit.

Hagar prides himself in being independent, although he has given to candidates in the past (not the recent past) who fall into GOP category.

Go ahead, hold him accountable and leave him sitting on the doorstep.

Hagar ran the following on his web site in 2004 ... it doesn't sound like a Republican to me.

Read over the lyrics to songs like "Give To Live" and tell me how that fits into the Bush Doctrine NeoCon mindset.

5. Wow. I find it TOTALLY bizarre that there is anyone on earth that cares this much
about Sammy Hagar's political angst.

Christ, I didn't even know he was still alive.

6. Never was much of a VH fan,
although I admire Eddie's talent on the guitar. Hager was and, evidently still is, a complete idiot.

9. I would hope that the Obama campaign would have the sense to use a song by the REAL Van Halen.
That's the one with David Lee Roth on vocals, not that tequila shilling Jimmy Buffet wannabe.

Sorry, old musical grudges die hard.

11. Dave was a waste
Dave left Van Halen and did his own thing, he was an asshole.

Sammy did a great job and the world showed Van Halen who they liked more right away.

5150 was a HUGE album and one of the best concerts I've ever been to in my life.

As for Dave getting back w/ Van Halen ... Eddie and Alex are desperate. They had a shit load of negative things to say about Roth and then it all goes away. Right.

Eddie couldn't stay on the wagon when VH went back out w/ Hagar, he couldn't keep his marriage together, he couldn't quit smoking and was reported he has mouth cancer, etc., etc.

They took Dave back and now ... well you tell me. I didn't hear much about the reunion tour and I haven't seen a new album from Eddie and Al since the thing they put out w/ Gary Sherone.

Gary's back w/ Extreme and they have a new album out. Sammy has put out too many albums to count since VH gave him the boot.

All the while ... not one new album from Eddie or Al since Sammy's departure.

Sammy may have issues and politically he's a misguided, but lyrically he's always been there, he's a great performer, and he'll always be the Red Rocker.

No doubt his next album will do well.

12. Blabbermouth.net: Hagar Keeping Presidential Choice Private
Blabbermouth.net, Sept. 15, 2008
EDDIE VAN HALEN Reaches Out To SAMMY HAGAR Over G.O.P.'s Use Of 'Right Now'
http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=104777

According to The Pulse of Radio, Sammy Hagar says that Sen. John McCain using VAN HALEN's song "Right Now" in his campaign ads has made he and long-feuding ex-bandmate Eddie Van Halen get in touch with each other.

Eddie and Alex Van Halen, who co-wrote the song with Hagar and Michael Anthony, have objected to the song's use by the G.O.P. Hagar told Rolling Stone that that ad spurred Van Halen to reach out to him, saying, "I got a message on my cell phone and it was Eddie's voice. He goes, 'Sam? This don't sound like you. I got the wrong number.' And he hangs up! So I hit redial. He didn't answer, but I left a message: 'Ed, it's me. If you would like to talk about the 'Right Now' situation I'd love to speak to you about it.'"

He says that he's been getting positive responses by friends and fans over the song's use: "I got calls from relatives, friends, doctors, lawyers... everyone thought it was so cool. Then I started getting excited. Those words are an old Zen philosophy — it's totally cool that they're timeless."

Hagar is thrilled with the G.O.P.'s use of the song — although he admits that he'd be just as happy with the Obama campaign using it as well: "I got goosebumps from it — my fur went up... I was honored that a potential President of the United States used those words in a positive sense, like, 'We gotta act now!'"

He touched upon the fact that Eddie Van Halen objects to the use of the song for a political ad but not a commercial one: "Why didn't (Van Halen) say no when Pepsi Cola gave us a million dollars to use the song in a Pepsi Light commercial? That's when you say no. That isn't the message of this song. But when a potential future president is using it to bring a message to the world, I'm going, 'Hell, yes!'"

Hagar says that he's keeping his presidential choice private, saying only, "I vote for the man, not the party."
