Unless I'm really missing something, I don't see how the collapse of Wall Street
is gonna be good for McCain's election chances. Ship passengers tend to stop looking at the girl on deck in a bikini when somebody hollers "Omigod, lookit all the icebergs!"

I think the Bushies fully intended to leave us with a depression, but maybe their timing is a couple of months off. People tend to get annoyed when they lose their life savings, and they may take it out on the people in power.

As for the effects of a depression on the wealthy, I'm reminded of what one of the Mellons (iirc, Andrew Mellon, Hoover's Sec'y of Treasury) said in about 1931: "Depressions are those times when wealth flows back to its natural owners."

Always remember that, when people were losing their farms and homes, other people were buying a lot of farms and homes for pennies on the dollar.

But I always figured the Bushies wanted enough time to get out of town ahead of the mobs with the torches & pitchforks.

1. McCain is already lying
and blaming the Democrats for not enacting needed reforms... So it really isn't his fault. :sarcasm:

2. America needs a "No Fault" divorce from McCain. He is already divorced from America.
Actually the fault (lies) within McCain and those like him.

5. Yeah, especially that Democrat who chaired the Commerce Committee...
Until 2004. That guy was REALLY asleep on the job. You know, the person who was SUPPOSED to be overseeing oversight of things like consumer protection.

What was that guy's name again? Oh yeah, John McCain.

4. Pow Wow needed with the BIG DOG
A group of surrogates need to point out that McCain and the GOP forced the Deregualtion of the Financial System Down The throats of America.

Biggest Problem? BIG DOG signed the Law... Unless Big Dog agrees to take the hit; the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act will never get the attention of America.

Prospects for this to happen slim to no chance.

The votes on the Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act seals the deal.

53 Republican Senators plus one Democrat - AYE

44 Democrats no Republicans - NAY

Let the electorate see the actual votes in the Senate

6. OK, I get it now. D'Oh.
The Fed just pumped in $70 bil. Between now & Nov (or maybe January) they'll keep pumping money into the market from one end and sucking it out the other. Then when they're done, they'll let the whole thing collapse like a circus tent with the poles pulled out. A very clever scheme--they keep the charade going long enough to install McNutso, meanwhile using the market like a giant straw to suck everything dry, ultimately leaving us in receivership to the Chinese and Arabs.
