If you want to feel optimistic about which way this race could be headed, watch Obama's speech
on the economy which he just gave in Golden, Colo., when the clip becomes available later.

This was a powerful, well-written, strongly presented indictment of John McCain and Republican-style let-them-do-what-they-may capitalism; even brings the S&L disaster into it for some well-placed historical (and political) backup. Long on specifics on what Obama would do as President and dripping with well-founded contempt for McCain's own pronouncements, including a zinger on the "old Washington" game of appointing a commission to study the problem, which McCain came out with this morning.

Obama needs to make this speech the template for the rest of his campaign; it's an ideological indictment that starkly presents the differences between the two side of this contest; one that wants that links Wall Street oversight with Main Stret outcomes and the other that let's the chips fall where they may.

1. Did any of the broadcast or cable networks carry it live?

3. Both showed excerpts
I watched MSNBC and Lynn Sweet, no friend of Obama's, gave it high marks and said McCain is on the defensive because he needs to explain his remarks yesterday, plus she was impressed with amount of specfics in Obama's speech.

It was the first time he has given this particular speech, and I hope it's not the last. Best I've ever seen him on the economy and the jabs at McCain were sharp and well-placed.

4. The parts I saw switching back and forth from CNN to MSNBC
were great. He is such a good teacher. Many people glaze over when economics is the subject, but he had the crowd listening.
