TPM: Yet Another Poll Puts McCain Up In Ohio
A seventh consecutive poll has John McCain with a lead in the key swing state of Ohio, a consistent finding that can only lead one to believe he really is ahead here.

The new numbers from Public Policy Polling (D): McCain 48%, Obama 44%, with a ±3% margin of error.

The key grab from the pollster's analysis: "There is a troubling trend for Barack Obama of undecided white voters in many of the swing states moving into John McCain's camp. He's going to be in trouble if he can't get that turning back in the other direction."

COME ON UNDECIDED WHITE VOTERS...you can vote for an african american man...he won't bite!

1. I think that we are not using Biden adequately. He is the forgotten man in this campaign.

4. Ohio is still doable....
but Obama and Biden need to spend more time there and dump more advertising money in that state....the votes should be counted this time so we have a chance....on the other hand, we can still win even without Ohio but winning this state makes it almost impossible for McLiar to win.

2. If we keep PA and get CO and NM, then OH is just icing
Taking VA is also possible. There are several routes to victory even if Ohio doesn't realize the error of its ways.

7. Obama needs to attack McCain's credibility.
Voter's trust him, even though they don't think he knows anything about the economy. Obama needs to run ads highlighting all the lying and position switching McCain has done in order to make these people distrust McCain.

10. I am surely not knocking the whole state, but
some of the most racist people I have ever met where from Ohio. And I lived in Mobile for a few years.

What's the deal over there?

They where all from around the Columbus area.

14. I go to war with them nearly everyday. We are a state of fing racists.
I've even gotten in shouting matches here in my shop. One guy said he "wouldn't vote for Obama even if he was white." And this is up in deep blue Cuyahoga County.

18. Well there is also the issue that the Democrats in both states taxes.
Well there is also the issue that the Democrats in both states taxes.

The legislature raised property taxes and income taxes across the board.

Right or wrong the GOP has done a good job on linking the poor economy to high taxes (very high relative to other states in region).
Then they LIE and say Obama is raising taxes. People are connecting Obama with the bad economy.

I mean it is crazy. They should be connecting Bush = bad economy but then again some people don't let facts get in the way of their vote.

15. I guess some people don't get the margin of error concept.
Plus or minus three points means McCain's actual percentage could be as high as 51 or as low as 45. It means Obama's actual percentage could be as high as 47 or as low as 41.

There's some overlap there. What if they both actually had 46? What if Obama had 47 and McCain had 45?

People need to do a better job of studying polling. These results don't "only lead one to believe he really is ahead here." They lead one to believe the race is close.

21. The "troubling trend" was predictable...
and isn't a concern. Anybody who even thought late-deciding white likely-voters was a demographic that was going to break in Obama's favor was living in a dream. "Late deciding white voters" is a group that is going to be largely influenced/comprised of "Bradley-effect"...people who were never going to vote for Obama and are not going to admit that they are never going to vote for a minority.

It isn't a concern either...such data almost never reflects new voters...we're kicking ass in new voter registration in OH. (Some anecdotal reports suggest that we're outpacing McCain in new voter registration in OH by high six-digits)

People are not going to register as Democrats in OH in an election year to vote GOP. It's illogically unlikely.
