IMPORTANT: A blurring we cannot allow to happen--reformer=deregulator. |
|
Just now on MSNBC, Norah O'Donnell asked John Harwood if McCain can legitimately claim the mantle of "reformer." Harwood said that he could be cause he had a history of being a deregulator. Now, the economic problems we have now are the result of deregulation policies supported by McCain. This one needs to be nipped in the bud.

1. He said in the spring many times that deregulation would open the markets |
|
and allow it to self adjust.

4. But McCain forgot to mention the level of larceny needed to facilitate that self adjustment process |
|
...Just the entire monetary system hyper-inflated and the economy destroyed!

My dear wife, a small town community banker, looked at me this morning as we scanned the newspaper and said;
"Its really pretty simple, either the government can regulate - or it can rescue. To be honest, regulation is a lot cheeper than rescue."
Its hard to argue with the elegant simplicity of that statement.

3. You are right. We have been on a DEREGULATION BINGE since the Reagan era. |
|
Deregulation is old hat. That damn trickle down. Let the big boys steal and all will be well. And all has been well for them with their golden parachutes. But the transfer of wealth from the middle class to the top 2% has been disastrous for us. Rapid decline in middle class buying power and standard of living.
So yes indeed, deregulation is the old ineffective way.
RE-REGULATING and RE-NATIONALIZING are the changes we need most.
By re-nationalizing I am mostly concerned about military services. Those have really dropped in quality since the Cheney-pushed privatization. The military did so much better when stuff Cheney's Halliburton does now was done in house. And our kids who entered the military emerged with more usable skills when the military did the cooking, plumbing, electrical and other work in-house.

7. This is something we should actually encourage |

The more McCain is associated with "deregulator", the more he becomes unsuitable to repair the current crisis. So his credentials for being a reformer become tainted and useless.
MCCAIN = DEREGULATOR
