Is the Obama campaign going to run any Palin/rape-kit ads?
Or are they more interested in losing this thing?

1. Should they blow their load in one day?
They're focusing on the economy this week, in light of everything. I'm sure that's one on the back burner as the election nears, if necessary.

3. It's beginning to look like plenty of women's minds have already been made up
Wait any longer, and it'll be too late.

4. unless it's part of a larger attack on her record in Alaska, it's not
an effective ad.

6. It's not an effective ad to contrast Joe Biden's record on women's issues....?
Edited on Tue Sep-16-08 04:25 PM by brentspeak
(Violence Against Women Act) with Palin's record of charging rape victims for their own police investigation medical exams???

12. yeah, exactly.... compare and contrast
It would be a spectacularly effective ad. One (male) VP candidate wants to stop violence against women, while the other (female) candidate wants women to pay for having been raped. Just that difference alone, if pointed out in the MSM, would make her favorability rating drop like a stone. I can't understand why there hasn't already been an ad about it... I just have to assume that it's in the works and the Obama campaign is waiting for a "checkmate" moment.

7. yeah, I think they're holding that as the "nuclear option"...
It's such a horrifying fact and it can't be explained away in any way. Her town was one of the few towns (perhaps only?) in Alaska that had such a policy, so it can't be blamed on "that's just how they do things in Alaska." Even Alaskans were sickened by it, but Palin and her ilk wouldn't stop, so they had to be forced to do so by law. And it ties in to a bill that Biden (co?)sponsored and McCain voted against.

It's fucking thermonuclear.

I figure they're seeing how much they can whittle her and McCain down with the other issues before pulling out the big one. Personally, I think perfect timing would be right before the VP debate, so it's "in the news" and there's a heavier impetus on Ifill to bring it up (or, since it's in the news, Biden can bring it up on his own, if absolutely necessary).

8. I've said that they should let the women's rights 527s handle it
As a reminder that all women do NOT want the same things - and also to leave Obama free of taking up the fight with Palin.

The 527s can bring up:

1. The rape kit

2. Cutting funding for assistance for unwed mothers

3. Wanting to force rape and incest pregnancies to be carried to term

4. Hiring someone with a sexual harrassment record

If women were voting for Obama, there's no logical reason to vote for Palin on the issues. The 527s need to remind voters where she stands.
