Gallup Poll: Obama almost wipes out McCain's lead

By Yael T. Abouhalkah, Kansas City Star Editorial Page columnist

The resurgence continues: Barack Obama pulled almost even with John McCain in Tuesday's Gallup Poll. The numbers: 47-46 percent, in McCain's favor.

But that's down from a 5-point lead barely a week ago.

And commentators -- including Gallup's pollsters -- say Obama's gains could continue this week. That's because voters have said the Democratic nominee generally has better economic plans than McCain.

And with the U.S. economy in extremely volatile times, Obama could be the biggest political beneficiary of that fact in the coming weeks.

That puts pressure on McCain to come up with new, improved ideas to show he may have what it takes to help strengthen the economy.

2. I'm waiting for the Thursday polls.
I suspect Obama will have pulled even by then, or, more optimistically, be as much as +2 or +3.

Free Blackberries for everyone! (To be paid for by tax breaks for billionaires.) Oh, and did you know Sarah Palin can dress a field mouse?

5. Thanks for posting that because that is really good news for that state.
I am surprised the pundits didn't mention this one. They only mentioned the ones McCain was pulling up in.

10. I think it's only going to get better
I saw some poll re: NJ that it's 47-45 in favor of Obama. I don't buy it. No way. Now how.

This state is going hard, solid blue.
