McCain-Palin campaign officials held a press conference to announce they had new evidence to prove Governor Palin had legitimate reasons to fire Walt Monegan and it had nothing to do with Mike Wooten. The press conference was held in conjunction with a court filing made by the Governor's attorney, Thomas Van Flein.
Many are concerned that people who had no interest whatsoever before Palin was added to the McCain ticket, are now getting involved in the process.
In the recent filing of new evidence, Palin's attorney says that Monegan's vision for expanding the Department of Public Safety's operating budget came in direct conflict with that of Palin's administration. Also there's mention of poor discipline on Monegan's part relating to trooper incidents like ones of Mike Wooten's. Van Flein argues that Wooten's behavior was detrimental to trooper recruiting.
"I think it's a little disingenuous all the way around, and that it's like I said, I'm a little disheartened because I do think it's a different tone and different trust then what she said in the past," responded Monegan.
Monegan says that what the filing says is inaccurate and slanted. Monegan also adds that at the time he was Commissioner, the Governor never said she was unhappy with him.
House Judiciary Chair, Representative Jay Ramras said, "I'm sorry for Walt Monegan and his family, and I remain a McCain supporter but certainly not on this issue and not the manner in which they're going about articulating the reasons for the separation."
