Just updated my driver's license today. Am I gonna get caged?
I've been hearing rumors of Rovian minions pulling driver's license and voter registration records, and if the address on a person's driver's license doesn't match the address on the person's voter registration, that means that when that person goes to vote (assuming he's in a predominantly Democratic precinct), some sneering pencilneck known as an election challenger is going to point his finger and tell him he can't vote.

So I did today what I should have done a year ago - updated my driver's license so it has my current address. I'm doing this to save myself the jail time and legal expenses and general hassles of an assault and battery charge, because if some sneering pencilneck tried to tell me I can't exercise my birthright, I would ensure that it cost him some teeth.

Considering that I also recently updated my registration to vote so I can vote by mail (good for avoiding long lines at precincts that mysteriously have too few voting machines...) I'm hoping this keeps me from being caged this November.

1. It is times like this I'm glad to be a mail-in only voter.
Though, I still had to update my registration so that I could receive my ballots. Still, I don't have to deal with polling people.

But I worry if my vote will get counted. I know it's just psychological, but sometimes I feel like when I stick something into a mailbox, it goes into a memory hole.

2. I take my ballot directly to the election clerk's office.
That way, I get to drop my ballot directly into a ballot box rather than trusting the postal system.

3. I will definitely be doing that this year.
I wish I could actually SEE my ballot count in real time. That would be more reassuring. I have a fundamental distrust of "the system." Especially now.
