Palin to Meet with Leaders at U.N. - Hillary Cancels Visit - Palin to Head Anti-Iran Rally
I just heard this on MSNBC. Is this for real? Hillary was scheduled to go to the U.N. but cancelled her visit when she found out they were sending Palin? Palin is to meet with "world leaders" to shore up her "foreign policy experience" ?

And a TRUE leader/diplomat like Hillary Clinton is out?

I am outraged and sickened about this ! How long will they continue to push this dangerous, beauty queen neophyte on the WORLD?

Have we not been laughed at enough over Bush.. has the world not suffered enough for our carelessness?

Does anyone know the whole story behind this re: Clinton ?

1. The problem is with whoever invited Sarah Palin and made the event a farce. Good for Hillary!

16. The problem is that Hillary accepted an invite from a prowar with Iran group in the first place.
But, that part of the story seems to be lost in all the personal rivalry banter.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - U.S. presidential candidate Sen. John McCain may take his running mate Sarah Palin to the United Nations next week, U.N. officials said on Tuesday, to give her the chance to meet a few world leaders,

Speaking on condition of anonymity, several U.N. officials told Reuters that they were preparing for a possible visit by the Republican candidates next Tuesday, the day President George W. Bush and one of his main foes, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, address the 192 U.N. member states.

McCain campaign officials declined to comment on the possible visit.

Others addressing the annual gathering of world leaders at U.N. headquarters next Tuesday are French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.

The Wall Street Journal cited an unnamed Republican strategist as saying a visit to the United Nations would boost the Alaska governor's foreign policy credentials.

Separately, a group of Jewish organizations issued a press release saying that both Palin and Sen. Hillary Clinton would take part in a demonstration outside the United Nations against Ahmadinejad, who has said Israel should be wiped off the map.

8. What a fucking joke...
boost her foreign policy credentials....

So, If I spend a couple of days with a nuclear physicist, that makes me an expert in nuclear physics?

Jesus christ. If they, or she, think that will take a few questions out of Joe's arsenal in the debates, they are even more pathetic than I thought. That's probably why they're doing it. They don't want Joe to say; I know the world leaders, I've met with them...

4. All I know is that Hillary cancelled when she found out Palin was going to be there. As I said
yesterday, I think that's all the more reason for Hillary to be present.

Hold a mirror up to the kind of woman the Democrats offer and the kind of woman the Republicans are trying to sell the American public.

6. I missed your post.. sorry about that, didn't mean to dupe ! I must disagree, tho, HOP..
I don't think Hillary should for one minute give palin ANY legitimacy by standing or appearing anywhere CLOSE to her.

That's exactly what Palin wants.. legitimacy via osmosis.

Where is your post.. do you have the link to it?

28. Yeah, it is more of the same, like McCain showing up with Palin to boost his crowds, or
McCain demanding that Obama show up to his stupid town halls, because otherwise the whole focus stays on him and his blunders. And people don't show up for that much anymore.

McCain doesn't even have a campaign to run now - he hangs on Obama and Hillary's coattails; he copies slogans and ideas from Obama instead of even pretending to have his own message (and to create voter confustion to his advantage). Stupid little douchebag.

30. No, you didn't dupe! I just responded to someone else's thread on this subject.
I don't think that, by Hillary's giving her speech, she'd be giving Palin anything but agita!

Why cede the spotlight to Caribou Barbie?

5. They blind-sided hillary, by not telling her about Palin.
When she found out about it through the media, not the organizers, she withdrew, because it would have made it a partisan event. I'm bothered that she's the one that stepped out, the organizers should have just canceled palin.

7. For the life of me,I can't figure out why Hillary would cancel.
It's a bad more that will be played as her being "fearful" of competing with Sarah Palin. Hillary lost a chance to blow Palin out of the water with one hand tied behind her back and expose her for the lightweight she is. What is the reasoning for the cancellation?

9. As I said above, I don't think Hillary wants to lend Palin ANY air of credibility by appearing
alongside her. That insults me to even think about it.

I don't know that to be fact.. but it makes sense to me. On the contrary, rather than making Palin appear lightweight, all the bimbo would have to do is keep her mouth shut, stand next to Hillary and reap the reward of all the pics the media would headline for DAYS with Palin/Hillary in front of the U.N.

12. I hadn't thought of that. I also think the press would laughingly
compare it to the SNL skit, perhaps that has something to do with it also. I don't ever assume the press is above trivializing anything.

13. I agree with you. If Palin thinks that living next door to Russia gives her some kind
of foreign policy creds, she might think that standing next to Hillary would give her national experience. I think Hillary did the right thing.

18. It's OK with you that HRC would give the antiIran group credibility, just LIKE Palin is
because Clinton and Palin share that belief in the group's cause, right?

Wake up people and realize what this rally and Clinton's acceptance to appear at this rally is actually about, and it's NOT a personal rivalry with Palin issue. Dems should be more disturbed that this group found that both Clinton and Palin WOULD accept their invites in the first place.

27. Kyl-Lieberman ring a bell? And just because HRC shifted left rhetorically for a primary race
doesn't mean she and Bill abandoned their support of the hawks' agenda. They stayed on the exact same page as Lieberman until he lost his primary race. Their shifts have been all rhetorical for Dem audiences.

22. Look.. you've been on every thread, every response with this, and I understand
that you're upset about the "anti-Iran" rally in principle.

I'd just as soon not see any "anti-Iran" rallies either. We need to TALK to them, ala Obama, not antagonize them with "rallies" which seem to be a bit childish, given the gravity of the situation. I think we all get that.

That said, its politics. Sad but true. The Jewish League organized this and anyone who refused to attend would be seen as "not supporting Israel".

They invited BOTH Clinton and Palin, to lend their "rally" legitimacy and ensure MAJOR MEDIA coverage. That pisses me off in itself.

It is what it is. I don't like it either. But the issue at hand is political, and partisan. I'd hope we all agree with the anti war-mongering stance/position you're taking :-)

26. The issue at hand is being prowar with Iran and THAT is being lost BECAUSE of the politics
of PERSONALITY that too many are falling for, even here at DU.

These antiIran groups knew what they were doing long before Palin was even tapped for VP and Clintons have been part of the validation of their mission for some time.

11. I found this article:
Clinton blindsided by scheduled event with Palin
By DEVLIN BARRETT – 10 hours ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has canceled an appearance at a New York rally next week after organizers blindsided her by inviting Republican vice presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, aides to the senator said Tuesday.

<snip>

Clinton aides were furious. They first learned of the plan to have both Clinton and Palin appear when informed by reporters.

"Her attendance was news to us, and this was never billed to us as a partisan political event," said Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines. "Sen. Clinton will therefore not be attending."

A McCain-Palin campaign official, speaking on condition of anonymity because Palin's schedule for Monday has not been announced, said only that Palin tentatively planned to attend the rally.

<snip>

Both McCain and Obama have made strong appeals to Jewish voters, particularly in critical states like Florida. Obama has emphasized to Jewish audiences his commitment to Israel's security, and has worked to dispel doubts created by false rumors that he is Muslim.

The GOP would have tried to push this one as a bipartisan even, and it was NOT. It was someone turning this into a media circus. Palin better attend this one now...

Good for Hillary!
