Obama.... at last night's fundraiser

Every time I think he can't impress me any more, he does.

Notice... no teleprompter.

1. Why is he still complimenting McCain? The man has lost any semblence of decency and no longer
deserves our respect.

I'm SICK of our side being complimentary and their side lying and lying and lying.

Its a real turn off and it makes me mad.

5. It's not a good tactic to sounds overly critical of an adversary cause it takes away credibility of
...negatives due to logic of a person never being able to see the good a person has in them.

9. When he's talking about them PERSONALLY, yes.... being polite is a virtue

When he's talking about their POLICIES, no.

And Obama NEVER compliments McCain on his policies.

8. You and I understand this (as does Obama).... the frothing angry masses don't

He's trying to win an election.

He's showing character.

Being a dick will not garner him more votes, and it detracts from his message.

11. I didn't say criticize the guy...I just don't want to hear him going on and
on about how great he is.

And he is not saying how great McCain is to justify a further counterpoint but to explain why the race is closer than it ought to be which seems to concede the point that it is deserved in some way.

Lastly, this isn't an impartial crowd he needs to win over, its his highest level donors.

12. A) He knows his remarks were being recorded... he's not JUST talking to this crowd.... and B)

Here's your storyline if he used the occasion to bash McCain:

"Obama Bashes McCain at Celebrity Fundraiser - Exclusive Video Tonight on the O'Reilly Factor"

Obama's remarks seem more genuine and NOT a typical stump speech. His throwing a bone to McCain's past character makes people on the fence listen to the rest of Obama's speech.

15. Unfortunately he needs to rev up the base because he set himself
some huge money goals, so he has to make the base happy while winning over the middle. Those are two different things as we all know.

6. exactly, at least we see McInsane for what he is
just for the big corporations and the lobbyist, and has no respect for the American people and cannot even relate to us.
Just look at Cindy McCain next time, does it look like that she will embrace children or even read to them?

it is a class war.

10. Obama does too.... he just realizes that he needs to get 50.1% of the electoral vote

You, however, want to see your anger placated.

His motivation is to win an election.

Your motivation is to draw blood.

When I hear Obama praising McCain, I feel kind of sick and queasy inside. Its from the gut.

I guess to me its like when this asshole keeps on hijacking you every day, and then when you talk about him, you always start with the good deed they did like 20 years ago. When the other side is using egregious behavior, being nice is weak.

My disgust for McCain has definitely evolved and gotten stronger over the last month or so. When we started this campaign it was ok, because he seemed like a decent guy. But now he is just a lying thug.

When people say Obama is too "cool" to be President, this is exactly what they are talking about. He doesn't take offense when he ought to as a normal human being.

17. the overt negative stuff is best left to surrogates.
throwing mud (truthful or otherwise) costs both the throwee AND the thrower. hence, best to let your surrogates take that hit and leave the top of the ticket clean. obama can even occassionally denounce his own surrogate in a magnanimous gesture. this can work wonders: the insult sticks, but your own candidate looks like a saint, even though this is all carefully orchestrated. it's great theater.
