Volunteers! Are you surprised by the number of people volunteering by you? |
|
I am.
I live in Rep. Sensennbrenner's county here in Wisconsin, if that gives you any idea of how red we are. And two nights in a row down at headquarters we've had so many people phonebanking that there wasn't enough phones for them all, so some of them were on their cell phones.
I would understand if this was happening in a big city like Milwaukee, but this is an area that traditionally goes Republican in every election. Still and all, we do have the highest concentration of Dems after Milwaukee, and if we get enough of them to vote we can swing an election. But the county itself never goes Dem.
I didn't see this kind of enthusiasm in 2004 until after Kerry won the debates.
How's it with youse guys?

1. IN CA 50 went out last weekend with a young guy who was pro life and against |
|
same sex marriages. He is for Obama and now has volunteered to work for our candidate who is pro choice and for same sex marriages.
I wasn't surprised that we got him to cross over - just surprised we got him out knocking on doors.

3. Great! How does that compare to 2004 at about the same time? |
|
I love our staffers. They're so much more into making sure the volunteers feel a part of the team. Last time I felt left out of the clique.

4. In Ohio we are in need of volunteers. |
|
We have young people running the Obama office and they are working like dogs. We have been housing Obama staff on and off since the primaries and things are really heating up. Keep up the good work. Peace, Kim

a lot of time at our local campaign headquarters. The atmosphere is absolutely electric. People coming and going, volunteers out the wazoo. It's marvelous.

7. In Northern Arlington VA on a Saturday Afternoon |
|
there were volunteers spilling out into the hallway. They ran out of canvassing packets and had to assign people to other duties. It is a big deal.
All the volunteering in the world will not overcome a 10-point deficit. But it can make a critical difference in a 2-to-3-point race. And there are a LOT of states in that category.

8. I want more shout outs |
|
Surely more folks than this are volunteering...
Unless of course you're all out volunteering right now, in which case you can be excused from not posting.

10. I want to address this specifically, I've wondered this about DU often in the past months... |
|
I'd like to know how many people who are registered at DU are up to their necks in campaigning/electioneering. I'd guess that it's a lot. I read something (most likely here) that progressive Democrats tend to volunteer more than other dems, and I believe DU tends to be more progressive.
