Governor of Kansas: some Whites not voting for a Black no matter what
9/16/08
Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius publicly considered the possibility that Sen. Barack Obama’s race might be a factor in this year’s presidential election during an appearance here Tuesday.

“Have any of you noticed that Barack Obama is part African-American?” Sebelius asked in response to a question about why the election is so close. “That may be a factor. All the code language, all that doesn’t show up in the polls. And that may be a factor for some people.”

From CNN's Jack Cafferty

Race is arguably the biggest issue in this election, and it's one that nobody's talking about.

The differences between Barack Obama and John McCain couldn't be more well-defined. Obama wants to change Washington. McCain is a part of Washington and a part of the Bush legacy. Yet the polls remain close. Doesn't make sense…unless it's race.

(better to say it now than wait till its too late....)

1. I think everyone knows this is the reason McCain who is a moron
is even close in this race. Oh well nothing you can do about it.

12. Who is "anti-choice" for that matter?
"Pro-life" and "Pro-choice" are just about two of the dumbest and overbroad rhetorical labels ever devised. There are other lives than the life of the fetus, and other choices than the choice to have an abortion.

17. depends...
There are a lot of politicans (Tim Kaine springs to mind) that consider themselves personally pro life, but don't want to see abortion illegal either. If I didn't think they were going to ban or severely restrict abortion, I'd see no reason not to vote for them.

15. My point was that everybody has at least ONE thing that is a
show stopper FOR THEM!

I admit, I have several. One is that I will NEVER vote for a Republican, even though I KNOW they're not LL the same. Another is that I will never vote for a religious fundimentalist because they ALL want to change ME to be like THEM! Maybe not ALL are like that, but I'm not willing to take the chance!

20. I have to admit
knowing the history of the Mormon church, I probably would have trouble voting for a mormon -religiously, I'm pretty much a Pagan/Diest and respect most belief systems as each being meaningful and important in their own way, but the thought of any religion enshrining racism and mysogyny as part of their belief system is disgusting to me, and it doesn't matter if the church has been reformed over the years, there are still whole cities being built in the remote areas of the West designed for no other reason than to create secretive societies where child molestation is not only tolerated, but a regular social practice and Mormonism is the shield they use to protect themselves from the law and insure those molested kids never see the light of day. If people find offense that, I'm sorry, but the world is full of snakes and charlatans who have no quams about using religion to justify their disgusting practices and in my mind, they deserve no quarter.

6. Difference between not voting for an AA & not voting for a "pro-lifer"
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 11:46 AM by Caria
I cannot imagine ever voting for a "pro-lifer" (i.e., someone who proclaims that Roe vs Wade should be overturned), a young-earth creationist, or a member of the Klan. I would vote against such people because I think their beliefs and values would prevent them from governing as I want to be governed.

That is very different from voting against someone on the basis of their DNA.

7. On Cafferty's page
"Many people will not vote for the issues but against a black president!!"

If the majority of Americans agree with this sentiment, then we get what we deserve. :-(

This is a test our country cannot afford to fail.

9. Race I think has been the most divisive issue in America's past
An entire people was enslaved and over which, at least in part, the most violent war between Americans was fought. After that, over the mere fact of race, there were years and years of discrimination, brutality, and countless murders, with thousands being hung by their necks across the south in public squares. For some older Americans in particular, who still remember Jim Crow and lived in those times, who either defended the vile practice or opposed it, the memories can still be fresh.

18. It's amazing to me that the Rethugs can cry "Sexism!!!" with impunity...
but calling the repubs or the media racist is Completely Off Limits.

Total white privilege - can you imagine if Obama had the drug addict wife? Would she get the same pass as Cindy?

19. Some people will not vote for Barack because he is black, some will not vote McCain because he is o
he is old.. or he has Palin on the ticket. So these "some" voters will always be with us, just means we have to overwhelm them with our turn out.

There are always "some" like that, where issues mean nothing, but color, gender, age, ethnicity, which a person has no control over means everything.
