Palin takes first impromptu question from national press
From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby

CLEVELAND, Ohio (CNN) — Sarah Palin took her first impromptu question from a reporter traveling with her campaign Wednesday while shaking hands at a restaurant called Karl's Inn of the Barristers in Cleveland. A pool reporter from the national press corps asked Palin's reaction to the federal bailout of insurance giant AIG. Palin said she is "disappointed that taxpayers are called upon to bailout another one."

"Certainly AIG, though, with the construction bonds that they're holding, and with the insurance that they are holding, very, very impactful to Americans," she said. "So you know, the shot that has been called by the feds, its understandable but very, very disappointing that taxpayers are called upon for another one."

The reporter asked Palin if she had plans to come to the back of the campaign plane to chat with the reporters who cover her as she campaigns around the country. "We're getting lonely back there," the reporter said.

"Are you getting lonely?," Palin answered. "Gee, yeah, come on up then!"

When Palin entered the restaurant with her husband Todd, she introduced herself to about 10 patrons as "Sarah," and told them, "Excuse me for interrupting your meal." It was Palin's first retail campaign stop since the day McCain tapped her as his running mate.

5. "Construction bonds"? Can someone please explain to me what those are & why
an important part of keeping AIG from filing for bankruptcy?

Thanks!

11. AIG provides insurance for a broad range of industries
including off-shore oil platforms, so I bet they do provide construction firms with insurance. Maybe she's implying that the decline in the housing market is why AIG needed to be bailed out...possibly?

15. Yeah, don't try to do the explaining for her.
I realize your good intentions but it's just too obvious that in her using phrases like "construction bonds" that she's trying to trick people into thinking she knows the terms and thus the theories behind those terms. That kind of shortcut of trying to BS people using their very own intelligence and knowledge to replace hers is why she's the "empty suit" and not Obama.

This is kind of like McCain's hijacking of the "change we need" slogan and in doing so, trying to capitalize on all the ideas that Obama's already laid out without doing all the hard work that Obama's already done of actually stating what that "change we need" is. So yeah, don't do the McCain camp's work for them. They need to explain their own ideas to us. We have no obligation as voters to be searching for justification for their positions-- they need to be justifying their positions TO US. They are accountable TO US. Got it? :)

12. Um... although I'm not a total financial expert, that sounds like some fucked up talking point to me
AIG was an important part because of their size-- they had international dealings, which would probably have caused a WORLDWIDE depression rather than just a market crash in the US. Although both options would have probably led to a global economic crisis anyway, choosing to bailout was obviously something they needed to do to delay that.

From what I gathered, AIG guarantees a great deal of policies and bonds that they did not have the capital for. The banks that have been failing were failing mostly because they had made bad loans and were also taking on high risk investments that weren't backed by actual capital. The deregulation basically allowed these financial institutions to claim that they could insure policies for $1 billion when they only had like $100 million in the bank.

But despite the bailout, there is too little common sense going on. And there's still this back dealing that the American people need to be aware of and get the federal government to arbitrate over. There are way too many byzantine deals being made because a lot of the capitalists in charge of this failure are trying their goddamned best to take as much money as possible and running away with it. Obama's right: if you borrow from the government, you need to subject yourself to government regulation and oversight. Not this stupid fucking "scout's honor" self-regulation bullshit.

14. Obviously coached - maybe even a plant question ...
THAT kind of answer is what you get when someone knows next to nothing about most everything, has limited capabilities to begin with, and is getting more information thrown at her in a very short period of time than she would ever possibly be capable of assimilating.

What you get are a mishmash of talking points that don't really make a lot of sense.

22. Almost certainly a planted question given the extent to which Palin
has been controlled and managed by the McCain campaign. She would not comment without permission and permission would not be given unless the question was known in advance.

20. urban dictionary's definition of impactful...
A non-existent word coined by corporate advertising, marketing and business drones to make their work sound far more useful, exciting and beneficial to humanity than it really is. This term is most frequently used in "team building" seminars and conferences in which said drones discuss the most effective ways to convince consumer zombies to purchase crap they clearly do not need or even want.

"disappointed that taxpayers are called upon to bail out another one."

I think the arrangement that was made is that the Feds loaned the bail out at 11% interest to AIG for 2 years. I don't think the taxpayers are paying for this bail out. Am I wrong, and if not, WHAT THE HELL IS SHE TALKING ABOUT?????
