How to swing this election without really trying: |
|
The volatility of polling data shows that a good portion of McCain's support is soft at best. While we may not be able to convince those 'likely McCain' voters to change their vote to Obama, we can surely get some of them to believe it's really not worthwhile to go out of their way to vote on election day. The idea is to increase anxiety and doubt about McCain by bursting the bubble the corporate media has created. We don't run Fux or CNN, we don't have Limba*gh's 1000 radio stations, so why not use our own brand of asymmetrical warfare? I believe each of us can have an impact and even have some fun using a 'Democratic Underground' Railway, so to speak. Along with making phone calls, knocking on doors, and donating money, here are three ideas I have to make an impact without lifting a finger:
1) Be your own radio show: Everywhere you go, when you are out to lunch or at the mall with friends, say aloud so anyone nearby can hear you: "But John McCain is such a LIAR. Even conservatives are turning against him for all those LIES and distortions." When you find you're near a new audience, say it again.
2) Make them feel they're the only one: Whenever someone tells you they like/support Sarah Palin/McCain, say, "Wow. I don't know ANYONE who likes her/him. I mean, really, you're the first."
3) Drive it home: When you're at the bank, say to people around you and to the teller, "I wonder how long until John McCain's caving in to big banks and business make this place go bankrupt."
At the cash register: "You'd better clear this check/charge fast before John McCain's caving in to big banks bankrupts us all."
At the pharmacist say, "Better fill this fast before John McCain lets the insurance companies cut my coverage even more."
Maybe you have more to add?

1. Another tactic one might resort to.. |
|
You meet a McCain voter. You say (assuming you're not wearing Obama gear)"after this supposedly Republican government bailed out AIG and Fannie and Freddie, I just decided McCain isn't going to be any better. I'm voting for Bob Barr to send a message that Republicans need to start acting like Republicans."

5. Ooh - I like that one. If we can't get them to vote FOR Obama, we might |
|
be successful in getting them to vote AGAINST McCain.

4. I'd take the opposite approach - |
|
pretend that I'm one of them but am having serious concerns. "I was excited with Sarah Palin, but finding out her city was plunged into debt during her stint as mayor alarms me - especially in these tough economic times for our country" "I believed President Bush and Senator McCain when they assured us that the economy was going to be okay, but not only am I facing tougher times economically, I'm very frightened at what the failure of the big banks will mean to each of us." "I've always been a staunch Republican, but the recent events have made me afraid that the party has changed, and I'm no longer sure they have our best interests at heart."
Stuff like that. If I start hollering that McCain is a liar, I'd be met with resistance - they'd defend. I think it works better if they believe I'm one of THEM and "what shall we do?"
Just IMO

|
even though he couldn't get enough of him in the primaries...

But thanks for number 5; I hadn't yet thought of that one.
