Biden: “If I sound angry it’s because I am angry. I am sick and tired of this"
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 01:31 PM by bigtree
September 17, 2008

Democratic vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden Wednesday hit the road in Ohio as he likened John McCain's economic "conversion" to the Bible story of Saul on the Road to Damascus.

Biden, launching a two-day bus tour through the battleground Buckeye State, spent much of his 40-minute remarks on Maumee's idyllic West Wayne Street hitting out at Republicans for de-regulating the economy in recent years.

"Look, if John cares so much, cares so much about this now, where was he a week ago? Where was he a month ago? Where was he five years ago? I’ll tell you where he was, he was bragging to the folks on Wall Street to the executives who now he calls ‘greedy.’ He was bragging to them how we’re going to shred the regulation that fetters them, that ties them down."

"Remember that scene in this administration where a bunch of folks, I think it was the Commerce Department, or maybe it was Treasury, took out a chainsaw. They had it on TV, a chainsaw, and cut through a whole batch of regulations. Well, they were cutting your bone and sinew. They were cutting right through the very things that protected ordinary people on Main Street.

“This boy had what they called a political epiphany, not a policy one,” Biden told the crowd of 1,500.

“So let’s take a look at John’s conversion here,” Biden added, “Something happened on the road to Damascus, John fell off his horse but he got back up on the same horse.”

“So John, you got back on the same horse, you continue to push a plan that’s designed to de-regulate the health insurance industry,” said Biden, asking the crowd to raise their hands if they trust insurance companies to take care of their needs.

“I got one person who raised their hand. I got also a bridge I got to sell you and guess what? It’s in Alaska and it goes to nowhere,” he said, echoing a line Obama has been using on the stump as well.

Biden, voice raised, said “If I sound angry it’s because I am angry. I am sick and tired of this . . . Who are these guys? Where do they come from? What possible right do they have to say to anybody, particularly to us, that they know how to manage our money and manage the economy?” — and Hedge Funds, which he said need to be more transparent.

“John has said to the folks on Wall Street, and again I’m quoting here – this is in the Wall Street Journal – I’m always for less regulation. Here now, John has said he’s going to crack down on the greed on Wall Street. The greed of American corporations,” he said.

“If we’re going to bail you out, if we give you an opportunity, if we give corporations the inside track then you better damn well open your books to us and let us see exactly what you have,” he shouted. “If you don’t want our money, keep your books closed. You want our money to bail you out, then you better let us know what you’re doing and what you own.”

"Biden said the nation is more polarized than ever before and that middle class America has gotten "kicked in the teeth" the past eight years with a Republican president in the White House.

"John McCain is fundamentally out of touch with the American people," said Mr. Biden of the Republican nominee for president. "No where has he been more out of touch than the current financial turmoil."

"President Bush promised that he would work well with Democrats and bring integrity back to the White House," Mr. Biden said. "Well folks, we saw how that story ended."

"Eight years later, what are we hearing? Another Republican who is telling us the exact same thing," Biden said. "We have seen this movie and as we all know, the sequel is always worse than the original movie."

4. Finally! The news media has finally re-discovered Biden.
What makes it sad is that they're late to the bandwagon. Biden's been faithfully stumping for Obama and going on the attack. He hasn't been lying low. It's just that the faithful old dog that Biden was couldn't compared to the strange new lipsticked piggy pitbull that Palin was for the news media. And now that Palin's shown several traits that make the news media has recoiled from, now they're forced to go back to Biden, who's just been plugging away at his job, uncomplaining.

None of this happened. We should be protesting outside teevee stations to force them to carry the damn news. All I heard this morning was that Obama can't connect and has no passion. It's that same horse McCain got back up on, the same horse the media has been letting Republicans ride to the White House for years. We've got to stop it.

111. Republicans have a groups of people with sent chain letters
When republicans see anything they don't like even the truth
which exposes their deceit , they start sending their email to
groups of their friends to email to their groups of friends
and so on , to complain to the news Stations , newspapers and
the sponsors.
When Clinton was in office they made a daily routine of
sending their BS day and night.
Republicans know one thing ,, the wheel that makes the most
noises gets the grease no matter if it is the spare tire..

17. Go get 'em Joe! More on the chainsaw story Biden mentioned below:
But Mr. Greenspan wasn’t the only top official who put ideology above public protection. Consider the press conference held on June 3, 2003 — just about the time subprime lending was starting to go wild — to announce a new initiative aimed at reducing the regulatory burden on banks. Representatives of four of the five government agencies responsible for financial supervision used tree shears to attack a stack of paper representing bank regulations. The fifth representative, James Gilleran of the Office of Thrift Supervision, wielded a chainsaw.

Also in attendance were representatives of financial industry trade associations, which had been lobbying for deregulation. As far as I can tell from press reports, there were no representatives of consumer interests on the scene.

Two months after that event the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, one of the tree-shears-wielding agencies, moved to exempt national banks from state regulations that protect consumers against predatory lending. If, say, New York State wanted to protect its own residents — well, sorry, that wasn’t allowed.

30. The few Repub comments in the articles
all basically said why didn't Biden (and Dems) do anything to stop this?

I love it! Dems are supposed to always "save the Repubs from themselves". Repubs do the damage, but if the Dems can't stop them, the Dems are to blame. What utter bullshit! And they DO save the day, more often than not.

Unbelievable nerve, they have. Not to mention abject stupidity. But morons are for joke-material.

Guess they forget about C-SPAN, and that some people read... and more than once every 4 years.

I also noticed that the same identical comments appeared repeatedly at intervals - obviously someone pasted them in to appear as if more people share their pov, and to muddy the waters.

"they were cutting through your bone and sinew"

He gets right to the gut. I heard him the other day talking about the Violence Against Women act and how McCain voted against it and he talked about how many millions of women have "screwed up their courage and hid in the corner with the telephone" calling the National Hotline that the VAW act established.

He gives me goosebumps and Obama always makes me cry.

The two of them are incredible and I love them both.

Seriously, WTF?
We are in the one of the most important, historic and contested presidential races in the history of our country and as I flip through the three networks each night, there are no clips aired of the campaign trail. On either side!!!
I'd actually love it if they played a clip every freakin' night of Palin, because then people would start to see how she just repeats the same thing over and over and over again.

52. This, "my friends," is an attack dog
This is what an attack dog does. An attack dog goes on the offensive, chasing after the bad guys. Biden is an attack dog. He scolds the opposition for its problems. He hammers on policy and the ticket's plans, not petty bickering over semantics.

An attack dog doesn't look pretty, and distract people. That would be a lap dog. That is one of those miniature dogs in a sickening sweater. Palin is a lap dog.

So, America, what do you want? Do you want your Vice President to go on the attack at world's problems, or to look cute in overpriced clothes?

75. Perfect pitch. Keep these ideas flowing. These thoughts are bubbling through the minds of everyone
with a bank account, a brokerage account, an annuity, a 401K, a CD or two or three, an IRA or two or three, a pension --- EVERYONE who WORKS!!!

I love these lines particularly:

“If we’re going to bail you out, if we give you an opportunity, if we give corporations the inside track then you better damn well open your books to us and let us see exactly what you have,” he shouted. “If you don’t want our money, keep your books closed. You want our money to bail you out, then you better let us know what you’re doing and what you own.”

God, I love the smell of INTEGRITY in the morning!!!!

factor.

And on that count, I think the guy on the blue team is a lot more impressive and accomplished than the gal on the red team.

Obama's judgment has been outstanding to date. McCain's, not so much.

83. Agree on all counts. This guy's been on the front line of
the republic for a long time.

The ghosts of Paine, Jefferson, and Madison would very likely seek out Joe Biden for a civil conversation around a kitchen table. They make far less frequent visits to our country than in the old days, but they go out of their way to converse with the likes of Joe Biden.

I hope Biden can be sent by the campaign to as many retirement venues in Florida as possible. I think he would make a huge difference in Florida.

Also...

110. Big Joe Biden is the real deal. He knows exactly the right thing to say
at the right time. He may have a gaffe now and then, but his message is coming through loud and clear and he is bloodying the repukes nose and he's doing it with folksy imagery and some good down-home tact. It's easy for the average american to listen to him and understand him..and be inspired by him. He is good for Obama and I think he will learn a thing or two from Big Joe when they are in the white house.

He was a GREAT VP pick.. as much as I wanted Hillary, Joe really knows how to sock 'em between the eyes like no body else!!

112. Biden!
It is no secret that I have passionately supported Mr. Biden from day one. He was my choice for President. It is strange (in some small way) to see people "discovering" the kind of person Biden has been all along. Many of us saw this passion, this dedication, this statesmanship from the very beginning knowing that this was not only the most qualified candidate on either side, but that he was exactly what this country needed at this critical time. While I would have rather seen a Biden/Obama ticket, I am pleased that Biden is there by Obama's side and will help guide him with qualified advice and unquestioned experience.
