Republicans want the wealthy to be able to play any games they want with our money, without any rules at all.
How would that work in football?

Each team could declare themselves the winner and not play. Or buy out all of the other teams.
The idea that works is that rules are written to ensure the state of competition for the purpose of ensuring the continued benefits of competition.
It's like nuclear fission - if competition is not carefully managed, the process expends itself.
Of course, what the rules should be and who makes/enforces them are more advanced questions, but as a nation, America hasn't gotten to answering the basic ones yet.
