Obama's August total easily outpaced Republican John McCain, who raised $47 million during that month, a personal best. Obama broke the record $55 million he raised in February and has taken in nearly half a billion dollars since he launched his presidential bid at the beginning of 2007.

3. Not a surprise, since he probably saw a ton of cash come in from the Palin pick.
But I thought he'd push $50 million.

6. He wasn't held to public financing until after he accepted the Repub nomination.
So this money was raised before that.
