Conservative Against McCain/Palin (Phylis Dryden)
Context for Journal Entries: I'm in the process of compiling all the columns/articles written by "conservatives" against McCain and/or Palin – or for Obama. Yes, I know that many are frequently posted in the Editorials or Other Articles. However, they're always mixed in with the many articles on other topics and I, personally want a "set" all in one place, for easy reference when discussing issues with conservatives. So, I'm posting them in my journal.

Republicans have lost their way
By: Phylis C. Dryden (Editor?), Lebanon Daily News (PA)

The day John McCain decided to put Sarah Palin on his ticket was the day he lost my vote. His decision was a shameless appeal to female voters and to the religious right.

If there are women in America who would support McCain’s ticket solely on the off chance of elevating a woman (any woman) to the presidency, then we should have never been given the right to vote. Gender-based voting is a slap in the face to everything our ancestors in the suffrage movement fought for and won.

If there are voters in this election who would support McCain merely because he has chosen an anti-abortion, anti-gay-marriage running mate, they are perpetuating the most grave assault on conservatism by encouraging government interference in personal moral decisions.

I am a registered Republican with a conservative stance on most issues. ...

I wish the Republican party would return to its most basic premises: Less government is more; the less governmental interference with personal rights and states’ rights, the better.

There are too many Republicans today who believe it’s “their way or no way;” that they have the right to impose their own moral choices and beliefs on others. This has to stop. If McCain cannot be persuaded to drop Palin from his ticket before November, he deserves to lose the election.
