I heard this from my wife
She said she heard on TV that Obama has a secret deal with Iraq to not end the war until after he's elected?

I remember it as a take off on Reagan negotiating with the Iranians holding our hostages to not release them before the election, because it would make Carter look good and postponing the release will make Carter look bad. And insult to injury, Reagan gets credit for "freeing" the hostages.

Seems kind of odd, doesn't it?

Hope somebody knows something deeper about this?

3. The war "ended" years ago
when "Mission Accomplished" was declared.

It is now and has been since then, an illegal and completely botched "occupation."

19. Thank you. I've been saying that for YEARS! But they keep doing the drum-beats
of war bullshit, because that sounds way more dangerous - and NECESSARY - than an occupation, where our troops are sitting ducks.

4. actually, it was Nixon who had a secret deal with the Vietnamese
...so Humphrey wouldn't benefit from a sudden outbreak peace...

Indeed, Nixon's camp sent an operative to derail negotiations that had gotten underway in Paris...

about the Iran hostage situation. I came across newspaper clippings when I was doing research on the media and the Nicaraguan crisis awhile back.

Maybe they're pissed that "war" is being used against them this time...

15. Gary Sick, of the old Carter Admin, wrote a book about it.
The Reaganites feared an "October Surprise" in the form of a hostage release deal I negotiate with Tehran to hang onto the hostages until after the election. The hostages were released immediately as Reagan took office, and the shipping of weapons to Iran (the "Iran" part of "Iran-Contra") was part of the payback deal.

It had to have been a joke. Obama does not have that much pull. As we have seen, the status quo seems to be against him.

7. But, But, But......
I thought it was McCain who knew how to win wars.......and so when he's President, he'll know how to end it.

I thought it was McCain who knew how to catch Bin Laden, and when he's President, he will get him, even if he has to follow him to the gates of Hell.

"she heard on TV"? Like on what channel, what program and who said it???? Get some info from you wife, and let us know...K?

10. except the nature of this premise is totally backwards...
WE started the war in Iraq...Bush isn't about to stop his own war.

Reagan sabotaged Carter by supposedly negotiating to have the hostages not released till after the election...

I would say Obama is in no position to 'encourage' the Iraqis to not end a war that they have no control over.

17. I call it BS rumor started by McLame/Rove. Obama loves this country to not to do such a thing.
I remember Iran did not release hostages until election and caused Reagan to win. So Iraqis maybe doing the same to McLame/Bush. Those people are not stupid, they have been around longer than us.

21. Yeah because all those different factions just plan to stop in January
The "Iraqis" consist of so many different groups and factions that you can barely get them to talk let alone be on the same page. No way would they just end the fighting like that. Now Maliki could conceivably make an agreement with Obama, but he's already doing that with Bush, so whatever you heard is complete BS.

23. he didn't want the US and Iraq to "renew" the troop agreement that expires in December 08
BECAUSE he's afraid Bush will tie our hands and he thinks we should negotiate with a new prez in Jan

That's where the rumor came from.

Silly, huh?

25. No, but theres a pretty good chance that
McCain made secret deals with Georgia to heat things up there so he could flex his "warrior" pow pow foreign policy muscles. Given the odd coincidences of Bush administration people being there the weeks before they invaded the breakaways, and his campaign manager being a paid lobbyist for the country of Georgia.

26. The show
The show was a local Connecitcut imitation of a Regis and Cathy Lee type format. It consisted of one news reader and one weatherman.

I don't know which network it was on.

This is the first original post I've ever put on DU to every get more than one response! I'm a REAL DU'er now! Yippee!
