4.9 Million Viewers watched Palin Interview on Hannity....how is this possible?
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 09:39 PM by Roxy66
Do I live in an alternate Universe or do those 4.9 million? Who are these people? How is it possible that so many more people in this Country watch FOX than MSNBC and CNN...combined?!!!!

It's not just Palin...it's every night....

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/

It just scares the shit out of me that that many people are avid followers of the Faux network...

13. 4.9 mil? There are 300+million people in the US.
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 09:38 PM by 1corona4u
To be factual;

Population: 301,139,947 (July 2007 est.)

So, 4.9 mil is a drop in the bucket.

28. I'm talking about facts,
The fact is 4.9 mil is not a lot of people, in the grand scheme of things. Believe it or not, not a lot of people know who Rachel is. Yet. I love her, and Keith, but their intelligence is way over the heads of some people in this country. These people also have short attention spans. Hence the reason they tune into Fox. It's shallow enough for them to follow.

4. Its called the GOP base
and in 2012 after we win this year she will be the GOP nominee so get used to her. Either that in 2016 if it looks like Barack can't be beat in 2012 which will hopefully be the case.

22. I doubt this seriously.
When they lose this year it will be the end of Palin's political career. She will be exposed for what she was, a sham of a pick to shore up the part of the GOP who still hates McBush, she'll be left to fend for herself against the tidal wave of bullshit in Alaska that has hit the media with Ike-like ferocity because McBush and his cronies will no longer need (or want) to protect her.

I won't say she'll be recalled but everything I've seen from her and all the crap that has been stirred about her on a national stage, when she loses, her career is over.

In 2012, they'll find another Fundie to put up in the primaries.
It won't be Palin.

27. The GOP rewards failures
Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, John McCain...They do things the opposite way we do.

Alaska will welcome her home a hero and re-elect her. She'll coast to the nomination on the base.

30. I agree
I was just thinking about that earlier. When McCain/Palin lose, I think she may have some regrets about accepting the nomination, as it is bringing to the surface a lot of crap that may have stayed buried if she'd just stayed in Alaska. Might have been better to be a big fish in a small pond. As things stand now, THIS could be her "fifteen minutes".

6. I caught my sister watching it. There were scheduling errors in NYC for candidate interviews.
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 09:34 PM by vaberella
But listed other things in the info box. MSNBC listed something other than the Palin/McCain (focusing on Palin) ticket. Ditto for CNN. It wasn't until I changed the channel to surf the others to make sure that was the case that I realized they were incorrectly informing the public but broadcasting info on Palin. So I changed it. But I think a lot of people might have gotten finagled into that mess because of mixed info, and secondly they want to learn more about all of the candidates---which shows to me people taking charge of their vote and wanting to learn.

10. First off
I would question that number. Who put it out, Fox news?

I am sure that a lot of people probably watched it to see if she was as bad this time as she was in the first interview. Myself, I didn't watch either one. For some reason I just can't watch that woman. It's the same way I feel about Bush, I just can't watch him anymore.

11. Yes, in fact. More watch FOX than CNN and MSNBC combined
That's why we usually hear MSNBC ratings for the key advertising demographic 18-54, rather than for everyone.

Among all viewers only Larry King competes with Fox.

Scary!

21. I don't put a lot of stock in those numbers. Where I am in FL Comcast doesn't carry MSNBC.
FOX and CNN are included in their basic cable line-up. You have to pay more, upgrade to the digital package to get MSNBC. I'm sure a lot of people just go with the basic, so MSNBC doesn't even get a chance to be seen.

25. The only reason FOX gets more viewers than MSNBC
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 09:54 PM by aaaaaa5a
is because they have better contracts with most of the large National cable companies.

FOX News (and CNN for that matter) are more likely to be on limited and basic cable service which is what most people get. Therefore that's all they see for news. Ironically, many of these viewers are "blue collar" "non-college educated", "working class"... yada, yada, yada, that the Dems often struggle with.

MSNBC is sometimes unavailable with some smaller cable companies. And with many of the larger cable outlets, it's only available with the premium cable packages. Fewer people pay for premium cable packages. Not nearly as many people have HBO as you might think! Thus, MSNBC has fewer viewers.

My parents lived in Jacksonville, Florida for years. They lived in a 5-6 hundred thousand dollar neighborhood. Yet even there, they had never even seen MSNBC until they visited me. (I live in another state) They have since moved to my home state and now watch KO and RM every night. But in the battle ground state of Florida where they use to live, there is at least one Jacksonville suburb, where it's Bill O'reilly or bust every night!

Something else of note.

Several months ago there was a large cable company in the Pittsburgh area that decided to move MSNBC from it's basic to premium cable package. In a race that could be tight in Pennsylvania, the number of low information voters in the Pittsburgh area that now must use FOX (or CNN) for their cable new source instead of MSNBC could be a small deciding factor.

Good news for the future... RM and KO audience is much younger. the FOX new audience tracks very old. That's why MSNBC often can compete in the key demo 25-54, even though they get killed in total viewers.

Grandma watches FOX but her grandkids watch MSNBC!

than just Pgh. Most of the MSNBC evening shows can viewed from the MSNBC web site. I sent the link to several people I know who were sooo disappointed when they lost KO, and so thankful that I sent them a way to still see his show and the new Rachel show too!

33. Everyday in America
there are probably 4.9 million televisions turned into Fox News. This doesn't mean anyone is watching. Half of them are in garages, hotel lobbies, bars, beauty shops, pool halls, bowling alleys, train stations, bait shops, board rooms, banks, laundry mats, upscale hotels, Best Buys and flop houses.

35. look at it this way
McDonald's sells hell of a lot of hamburgers. But if I asked everyone of this board who has the BEST hamburger in their area hardly anyone would say McDonald's. Biggest doesn't mean best at all. Fox News has high ratings for many reasons. On a business level Fox deals with cable systems in such a way that they get very good placement in the system. As has been mentioned, Comcast is moving MSNBC to a higher tier in many markets. Political move? Of course. Fox is treated exactly the opposite way by the system operators. But the biggest reason for their success is that Conservatives by and large want information that supports their existing world view. Whether they'd admit it or not, they want sensationalism, or they at least fall for sensationalism. They don't want to deal with complex issues in a complex fashion. They don't want to be educated, they want to be told what they already know. They're not critical thinkers and in fact when pushed often reject critical thinking. As such it's like shooting fish in a barrel for Ailes and Co. Always distort. Never fully exam an issue. Always be sensational (right down to the "Fox News Babes" concept), never truly inform, always have an agenda that panders to your audience no matter how ignorant the words coming out of your mouth may be (think Steve Doocy). Conservatives eat this up like a crackhead goes for rock. And the last time I checked crack dealers aren't exactly smart business people. They're just got a product that the masses find irresistible. I find both to be pretty damn reprehensible.
