Watching the rerun of KO tonight... and McLame said something
that hasn't been commented on.

McLame was giving a speech where he said "The chairman of the SEC serves at the APPOINTMENT of the President..."

The phrase should be "serves at the pleasure of the President" (such language would imply that he COULD fire him, if he was President today).

Someone "fixed" McLame's speech to change the language to APPOINTMENT (which is true, but the President can't fire him). But then they didn't fix the next line where McLame said that he would fire the chairman of the SEC.

So they KNEW the President couldn't fire the guy... but they left it in.

Did they think that no one would catch this? And why bother to fix the one word (to be technically accurate) and then leave in the boneheaded lie that the President can fire the guy?

The phrase "serves at the APPOINTMENT" just sounds really clunky and stupid.

Or did McLame "wing it" with this speech?

1. KO did comment on that as did Rachel Maddow on her show.
They both mentioned that the President, while he appoints the SEC chairman, he has to be confirmed, the pres cannot just fire him at will.

3. No, just the word choice of APPOINTMENT
not "pleasure"... and it was remarked on in passing, but not focused on. The focus was on the fact that the President can't fire the chair of the SEC

I thought it was very strange to have the word choice in a obviously prepared speech.

And someone used appointment instead of pleasure (like they knew that pleasure would be wrong).

2. I heard that, don't think he was fed the line, just couldn't come up with the
right word. I thought "pleasure" while he was speaking and then heard him say "appointment".

I think he's just losing it, his voice is often trembling.

I think he's been going downhill before our very eyes. He's old and suffering from PTSD and his brain is just beginning to fail him.
