Palin excitement levels off as Democrats regain lead
CNN: Palin excitement levels off as Democrats regain lead

(CNN) -- Is America's honeymoon with Sarah Palin over? Polls suggest that might be so. Palin appears to be losing some of her initial appeal as Democrats make gains in the polls.

The Alaska governor came out swinging at the Republican National Convention, energizing her party's base and shifting the momentum to John McCain's favor. At rallies in the week following the convention, the McCain-Palin duo saw their best attendance and a newfound zeal, and the Republican ticket took the lead in national polls for the first time. But polls show that the momentum has shifted once again.

Palin's favorable rating is at 40 percent, according to a CBS News/New York Times poll. That's down 4 points from last week. Her unfavorable rating is at 30 percent, rising 8 points in a week....

(T)his week, the Democrats recaptured the headlines, and Obama regained his lead in the national polls. CNN's latest poll of polls, out Thursday afternoon, shows him ahead of McCain by 3 points, 47 percent to 44 percent....

After a week in which McCain put Obama on the defensive over allegations of playing the gender card, the economic crisis has given Obama an opportunity to go on the offense. Most Americans see Obama as more capable than John McCain when it comes to handling the economy, polls show. The Illinois senator has been aggressively attacking what he sees as shortcomings in McCain's economic plans.

Also this week, McCain handed Obama ammunition for what has turned out to be a weeklong attack. Despite the shake up on Wall Street, McCain said Monday that "the fundamentals of the American economy are strong."...

Obama has filled this week's campaign speeches with a focused view of his economic agenda and sound-bite friendly slams to bruise McCain's image. "This is somebody who has been in Congress for 26 years, who put seven of the most powerful Washington lobbyists in charge of his campaign. And now he tells us that he is the one who is going to take on the old boys network. The old boys network, in the McCain campaign, that's called a staff meeting," he said Wednesday....

1. McCain's bounce from the convention has disappeared. Look at these poll numbers
from RCP to see how the tide has turned. The graph is very telling.

5. As they say on Wall Street....
A dead cat bounce.

Which translates into even a dead cat will bounce if you through out of a high enough window. But in the end, it's still a dead cat...

3. Palin got a taste of invasion of privacy
Palin has been mocking Obama for being concerning about constitutional rights during the "war on terror". Is the government really reading everyone's email. Well, Palin got a taste of what it is like.

It is similar to when reichwinger Bork was nominated to the Supreme Court. He argued that people had no right to privacy. Then a video store released a list of all of the movies he rented.

Palin has done a great job of uniting the left wing.

4. Palin's "excitement" was a media inspired BS story
America has had just a cursory look at Palin and her numbers, and the McCain campaign, are tanking -- except of course for the fundies who would vote for anyone that speaks their coded language, as proven by their continued support of Bush/Cheney over the past eight years. Palin for VP was a McCain campaign gimmick to get those fundie wackos back on McCain's bandwagon and limit the bounce from what turned out to be an incredible Democratic Convention and an even more incredible performance by Barack Obama (does best acceptance speech in history ring a bell?) When the rest of the country gets an even more complete look at Palin the only votes McCain will have left is those fundie wackos.

Even though the polls have turned around on Palin I sense an even larger gap than the current polls are showing, and I believe that's a good thing. America has the entire month of October to get an even better look at what a fiasco Palin/McCain would be and Barack Obama has the entire month of October to extend his lead. McCain's lies and gaffes along with Palin's extreme views, her myriad ethics questions, as well as her almost comical attempt to present herself as a candidate of substance will continue to weigh heavily on the McCain campaign.

McCain made a huge blunder picking Palin and the press has done all they can to mitigate it. Now that the media hype has run its course and the nation is getting a good look at the true Palin AND McCain I predict their campaign is going to fold like a cheap two dollar suitcase. I pray that I'm right because this country just can't survive four more years -- or quite possibly worse.
