For Those Who Supported Hillary in the Primary...
Just trying to get a read on how comfortable you feel with Obama as a candidate now, compared to how you felt in Feb-May. Not trying to re-hash anything. But I really am wondering if/how your overall opinion of him has changed since he's hit the trail for the GE.

7. Long before the primary season
started I was 150% behind whomever the dems nominated (as is the case every election.) I was, and still am, a Wesley Clark supporter. My loyalties went foursquare for the nominee after we had a nominee. I'd like to see our efforts directed toward the Dementia-Zealot ticket.

12. Me too.
I vote for the well-being of my family and country...not loyalty to a candidate.

I thought that Hillary could win more easily, was more experienced. I do think it will be harder for Obama to win, but it will be a more satisfying win and I think he will make a better president simply because he will have fresh new ideas.

Honestly, nine out of the ten candidates we had would have made excellent presidents. Gravel...NO!

33. Yeah, I'm still suffering from Wesley Interruptus. It's a sad statement...
that I think this country needs to be run more like the Army!

But Clark - and Webb - are the two Dems making the best arguments about how the little guy is getting screwed bad.

48. General Clark and Senator Webb
both took care of their kids, so to speak, in the military. In my military career I discovered that the most successful officers were those whose troops/sailors/marines came first. And as a four star Clark had as much if not more administrative experience and responsibility of any Governor in the nation. I hope that he is appointed Secretary of State.

Not my first choice during the primary, nor my second(my second choice is running as VP). But, as the democratic platform it is the best thing for this country, I will vote along party lines.

5. I really wanted Hillary to win, but
I never had anything against Obama. She would have been my preference (I'm Canadian tho, so my "preference" is immaterial) because of the "experience" thing. What had me worried was the mess that would be left to clean up. I think it will be an incredible job to fix what Bush/Cheney and the cronies have broken so badly and I was worried that Obama wouldn't have the experience to fix it all. Back then, I didn't know much about Obama and now that he is the candidate, I'm looking closer and realize that what he may lack in experience, he makes up for with intelligence and logic. He has surrounded himself with the necessary resources to help him. I listen closer when he speaks, I've read through his entire website, and I'm totally impressed by his smarts, his plans, his thinking, his goals and his ability to cut through crap and show that he really does get "it". He's inspiring in a way that comes through honestly and makes me believe in him and his plan to get America back to what it used to be.

I'm sorry to ramble ... bad toothache ... hoping what I typed makes sense.

13. As a pollster, I saw her strength with Indy and liberal Republican women...
She could TAKE those votes from McCain and GIVE them to the Dems. That's a double whammy to the Republicans.

I regret neither Clinton nor Obama ran against Bush in 2000 or 2004. They wouldn't have gotten kicked around.

23. Kinda funny
I've seen polls (which, unfortunately, I can't accurately cite now, so I have nothing to back the statement up) that said otherwise.

Regardless, I was torn between Obama and Hillary for quite a while, believing that either one will have made an excellent president. I finally ended up supporting Obama when I remembered how much trouble the GOP caused Bill back in the nineties - I firmly believe he could have accomplished even more great things if the GOP hadn't been forcing him to defend himself against everything they could dig up. I worried the same might happen to Hillary, and while I'm sure she could weather it, we're at a time when a lot need doing, and I want the next president able to focus entirely on governing.

The GOP had been anticipating her run for eight years, and had eight years to dig up everything they could find about her. There are likely numerous dossiers filled with stuff to attack her with; why else was Rush and other Right-wingers pushing people to vote for her (Operation: Chaos)? She would have also had the effect of energizing the GOP base against her, and likely McCain would have picked someone actually competent as his VP. Add in all that to my being immensely impressed with Obama's amazing campaign organization and ability to inspire, and... yeah.

Still would have voted for her in a heartbeat, mind.

Just my 0.02¢.

28. I understand where you are coming from....
I just have less faith that it is Democrats that can stop the Right Wing slander machine. To me, it's kind of blame the victim when the boogeyman is still out there.

They're both EXCELLENT candidates.

I just got tired of folks here saying "she's unelectable" when two national surveys taken in the last week of May had her beating McCain by five percentage points more than Obama did. She is very electable.

The other electoral pattern for her is that she has a shadow vote - the opposite of the Bradley/Wilder Effect - in that she consistently gets more votes than polling points. All those Indy women and many Republican women tell their spouses and pollsters they're voting Republican, then they go and vote for Clinton.

I think both candidates have a weakness with lower income white men. We need to get just enough of them on board to win this thing.

Keep the faith!

36. I can see your points as well
And have to admit, I wasn't hanging around here during the primaries, so I didn't see any of the fighting and arguments I've heard about.

I actually think Obama has the same thing. People out there who say they won't vote for him, but when they get into the polls and ppull that curtain shut, they cast their vote for Obama. I've met a few, men or women who say they're supporting him, but don't want their significant others or friends to know.

And, to be fair, they both have the Bradley Effect against them. There are just as many people who won't vote for a woman as there are who won't vote for a black man, even if they claim otherwise.

Regardless, you are correct on the low-income white men factor, but I think we will win enough of them over.

20. One post does not a flamefest make.
I think it was a good question. I think people need to know that most (I'd be willing to bet the farm) Hillary supporters were not AGAINST Obama. We had really good candidates so it was a tough choice to make. I agree, the MSM did treat Hillary badly, but I think it's less sexism than just wanting to create drama to boost ratings.

Our situation was not a bad thing. The republicans had ALL losers and choose the worst one...and he chose a gimmick as a running mate. That's bad.

...but I absolutely love Obama, and plan on voting for him in November. I am completely comfortable with him being the President of the United States. The only reason I chose Hillary over Obama was that I felt she had better experience and I have always had great admiration and respect for her...I felt I knew her better.

With that said, I have no doubt in my mind that Obama will be an amazing president.

Absolutely comfortable. We had a wonderfully strong and vibrant set of candidates to choose from. My own choice was for the good Senator from NY, but I fully support Sen. Obama in the here and now.

As for particular and individual supporters who were a bit too militant for my taste? Not so much.

But for my part, I'm already planning a Election Night Party at my place to welcome Sen. Obama to the White House ans the next President of the U.S.
