Democrats in Feminists for Life |
|
A funny thing happened while phonebanking for Obama last night...
After we finished, a friend & I were discussing Palin & some of her views. I brought up Feminists for Life because there was recently a letter from a member in our local paper. TWO people phonebanking said they were members of this group! One was a man & the other an older woman. I know that all Democrats are not pro-choice, but I guess I was surprised. The man immediately said, "There are other issues." No shit, sherlock! Then again, this one doesn't threaten your life or rights so it's easy to see as unimportant, I suppose. The woman said, "Not all Democrats are pro-abortion." which pissed me off. I calmly explained to her that there is no such thing as "pro-abortion". Nobody wants abortions to happen or promotes them. My friend said, "The term is "pro-choice"". We didn't really have time to debate much about it.
Now I'm curious...I'm sure their are pro-lifers here, but is anyone in Feminists for Life? What are your beliefs?

1. i am literally anti abortion. i chose not to ever have one. dont agree with them. i am pro choice |
|
it really is not a hard concept. anti abortionists refuse to acknowledge a very simple fact.
that you for addressing it exactly as you did. my 13 yr old son talking to friends at school about election, two parties and abortion... one friend told him, i bet your mom wanted to abort you. piece of shit kid that learned that from his parents, was my initial feeling. but these kids and parents are conditioned to say this
anti abortion. pro choice.

2. BUT sarah is nto a feminist. this is what pisses me off the most at her selection and the |
|
audacity to use that term. her husband shadows her. sits in the meeting cause she doesnt have the brain power to make decisions. uses her sexuality to manipuate people. that is not feminist.

I was speaking with a co-worker yesterday, and I know you have to tread carefully discussing politics at work (you shouldn't really discuss it at all, but it's hard not to). Anyway, she's no party affiliation and undecided in the presidential election. So I asked her what issues were important to her and she said, "I'm Pro-Life, but that's for me, not other people."
And I wanted to say well everybody (or almost everybody) is pro-life. I don't think anyone is really for abortion. The difference is do you think the way to reduce abortion is for the government to pass laws banning medical procedures or for the government to work with communities to promote a culture of life by providing: comprehensive sex education to include abstinence and what to do when abstinence isn't followed, programs to support unwed mothers who don't have a strong family with the means to assist them, policies to help every pregnant woman can get healthcare and adequate nutrition for herself and her baby, etc.
Perhaps this is why some "Pro-Life" people are Democrats. I couldn't ask my co-worker about her curious statement.

4. Abortions will happen whether they are legal or not! |
|
Do we want women so desperate they will do this to themselves or go to someone that is less than safe? The sheer terror it must bring in a woman who is too young, or sick, or drug addicted or poor to have an unwanted pregnancy must be overwhelming. And it's not so easy to just give it up for adoption. It's not as simple as they would life it to be!
I agree that Sarah isn't a feminist! It seems like an oxymoron like - Pacifists for war or something.
Is this group anti-sex ed & anti-birth control, too?
