My front yard Obama sign was replaced with "Another Democrat for McCain" sign last night. |
|
Not sure who did it, but I didn't notice it until I pulled away from my house going to work this morning.
Should I call the police?

of your suggestion to booby trap the signs, like driving some 13d nails in boards and burying them just below the surface around the sign. Doing so invites a lawsuit for you. A video camera security system would be a better idea because you then have proof of the crime. It may be an expensive proposition thou. Or just keep replacing it till they go away.

|
Humiliate the people that did it and show what republicans are like.
Make a new sign of your own (keep it withing the sign size limits for your town) BUT... write very clearly, and obviously homemade, "OBAMA 08" Then beneath it write: "They can keep stealing my signs, but NOT my vote!!!"
I would suggest this for anyone who is having that problem. Make a few so you can keep replacing them if you have to. Also, some have suggested some nice grease for the stick that holds it up... so that when they go in the dark to get it, they end up with nasty grease all over themselves and their clothes.. etc.

he'd tell his wife that if anyone tried to break in, to just crack the door, stick the gun in the air and UNLOAD it, fire away.. he said that's usually all it takes :)
Personally I have "special" bullets for my 9mm (yes, I'm a Liberal with a GUN, the most dangerous people there IS :) ).. these won't go beyond drywall, so if I were to fire at someone and miss, I won't kill someone in the next apartment or room.. that happened to a poor woman in Boulder, CO, when I lived there.. enjoying a slice of pizza, unaware that someone broke in next door, the condo owner fired and missed the culprit, but the pizza eating woman took a slug in the head, killed her instantly..
I like the freepers to know I'm loaded for bear and trained to kill during 'Nam - they once talked about going after Symbolman, putting on their "black camos" and pulling a "black" OP. I wanted to make sure they knew I'd blow their fucking pointy heads off if they came in my house to harm my family..
Other than that I'm a fairly nice guy :)

Always thought that someone should start a Progressive NRA, and make a voting block of it, Liberals with Guns, but who aren't crazy as a shithouse rat - we don't WANT those Automatic cop killers, and we DO want gun/trigger locks so kids can't get hurt or hurt others with a found gun..
A DEM NRA could really give those Radical NRA guys a run for their money as a voting block..
Maybe THEN we'd get "Respect" like those crazy people :)

there's a hell of a lot of dem hunters out here who'd probably go along with that pretty damn easily.
the NRA's political agenda is clearly hard right wing (don't take anyone's guns away, ever), and I don't believe that is what most gun owners believe in. I think that way of thinking is pushed on them because there isn't a sensible gun ownership association that they can join.

I like to say the difference is that liberals don't romanticize guns, pose for pictures with their guns, fall in love with their guns, or masturbate to or with their guns. We just regard them as what they are: firearms. End of story.

if it is on your property, you can also claim criminal trespass, along with theft. As I recall, there was an issue about people having to pay for the signs.
As someone else pointed out, the police are likely to ignore Obama/Dem supporters, but it would be on the record. (similar with harassing calls I received after an LTTE was published).

put the gloves on, cut peppers in half, and rub the inside all over the sign. Be careful not to touch it yourself.
Actually, now that I think off it, maybe you can puree the habaneros and then mix it in with some sticky grease. Rub that around the sign on the parts that they probably will touch when they remove the sign.
Be very careful and do not touch them without a glove. My husband went to pee after cutting up some of these peppers and he was in agony for the whole evening.

I had a Kerry/Edwards sign ripped to shreds in 04, found out my neighbor did it...the police came and basically said there's nothing they can do, I could file a restraining order but other then that, nothing.
So I got another sign and put it on the roof, he couldn't get to it and it was much more visable...!

59. Two of my neighbors had their Obama signs stolen this week. |
|
I have 2 signs on order. I bought 2 cuz I figured at least one would get stolen.
I just had an idea though. You could buy those Obama rally signs for a lot cheaper, staple-gun them to wooden stakes and put those in your yard. Woodens takes are really cheap..in the lumber section at Lowes or Home Depot. It would be cheaper and easier to replace them when they are stolen.
I think I'm going to order some rally signs right now!!

put in on your lawn. See, when you get stuff printed up, you usually have to get at least 50-100 printed. The person who got that one sign printed up for himself had to figure out what to do with the rest.

Rub all over the sides and back of political sign. Place in yard.
They may steal it, but they'll pay heavily and likely won't come back (especially if they wipe their eyes)

I've had to deal with that before, when I was publicly involved in some other political issues here. That's why I have several fire extinguishers and a shotgun in my home.

right now that I didn't read all of the comments, so someone may have given you this idea. It came to me while I was running through my neighborhood.
I would keep the McCain sign and alter it to read McCain sucks or is a joke or something similar. I would cover the Palin part on both sides with thick, white paper and use thick, permanent marker to write the words. I would cover the "Another Democrat for" part with the same paper. On it, I would write the words, "He really does suck." And then cover with another piece of paper.
Then I would wrap the whole thing in clear plastic sheeting so it doesn't get wet if it rains and I would stick it proudly on my lawn. Whoever stole the sign will come by to admire their handiwork. Let them admire yours.
When life gives you lemons, you know.
Edited for clumsy fingers.

If stealing yard signs is how they think they're going to win this election, things are far worse for their side than we imagined.

80. Update: Called cops to report my sign being stolen. |
|
A police unit came by after I called from my home. (I told them it was a low priority, not to send a unit if they were shorthanded or anything).
A 50-ish Cuban-American policeman came by to fill out the report. He's an Obama supporter too. He told me that a lot of Obama signs were stolen from this neighborhood over the last couple of nights. They're putting the area on a few extra night patrols because a lot of calls were coming in. He knew of no calls about McCain signs being stolen or defaced.

put "NOT!" across it diagonally in big black letters! Then put a big Obama sign next to it, perhaps with another sign saying the previous sign was stolen. Then send a picture of it to your local paper with the story. Just an idea!

Put a new Obama sign out.
And put another sign out, too. Make it really legible: EVERY TIME MY OBAMA SIGN IS STOLEN, I GIVE $50 TO HIS CAMPAIGN.
We used to do stuff like that on DU back in the day. Every time Bill O'Reilly would do or say something really heinous about Dems(daily) someone would offer to give the Kerry campaign an extra donation. People emailed him to let him know what they were doing.
It was taking a negative and making it positive.

My Obama sign was stolen the night I put it up during the primary. The next day, I called the cops and made a point of standing outside with them while explaining, for all my neighbors to see.
I put up a new sign the next day, and it's been there since April.
