CNN: Todd Palin- the shadow governor?
Obviously this is old news to DU but it is intersting that CNN is taking a tougher line with McCain/Palin. Yesterday they ran a 'truth check' story that said that Obama's ads were basically truthful and McCain's ads were lies/

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/19/todd.palin/index.html

Halcro wrote a blog post about Todd Palin called "Shadow Governor" and says, "Todd plays the role as kind of the fixer."

Even Halcro found himself the subject of e-mails that Todd Palin was copied on. He wants to know why.

"This whole process, and the whole string of e-mails, to me really raise some red flags," Halcro said.

But campaign spokeswoman Meg Stapleton explained, "There is spousal privilege in that the governor is asking him to print them off or take care of business."

Alaska lawmakers say Todd Palin is a fixture at the state Legislature. So much so, some say they've joked about getting buttons that read, "What would Todd do?"

One of those lawmakers is Lyda Green, a Republican and state Senate president who is not friends with the Palins.

"I had a meeting I requested with the governor. ... I was particularly surprised that Todd was there. I had never seen a spouse stay in the room through the meeting."

1. Andrew Halcro has an excellent blog
which I was just reading a few minutes ago. As a former Republican (he ran as an Independent against Sarah in 2006) he can't really be accused of being an Obama operative, although I wouldn't be surprised if he votes for him in November. I believe Andrew is the first to question the Monegan firing. The comments are illuminating, as well.

4. He's been on Sarah's case relentlessly

since before the 2006 election. A lot of people here were accusing him of sour grapes, being a sore loser, etc., but it seems now that he was right all along. I've noticed several people in the "comments" admitting as much.

From what I've been reading of various Alaska blogs, comments in the Anchorage Daily News, etc. most Alaskans are really turned off by the recent turn of events. Sarah seriously runs the risk of being a one-term governor, whereas before this "excellent adventure," she would have no doubt been a shoo-in for another four years. Send her back here, without the cover of McCain's goons, and we will take care of her.

6. Given Todd's significant involvement in public matters and
the Palin's expressed fundamentalism, I think it fair to ask the Governor whether she agrees with the common evangelical admonition for wives to submit to their husbands. And if the answer is yes what impact does that have on her public duties. I don't think that the American people will be all that comfortable with the first dude heavily influencing even a small portion of governmental policy in a Palin/McCain administration.

5. from my limited understanding
of their fundamental conservative religious beliefs,
the woman is subservient to the man...
it would make sense that he would be the man and boss behind her.

9. Well not to men in general...
But most definitely to her husband. Here's something that I find very interesting... Many of the very literal conservative Christians are steadfastly against Palin because they feel that it is not appropriate for a woman to be in such a a leadership position... and also of course that ideally she should be at home taking care of her children. Anyway, some of the types who are in the tank for the Repubs attempt to justify her running for VP by saying that "her husband probably told her to do it" and therefore it is suddenly A-OK. Very weird. and very scary. I know folks were joking about vetting Tod, but I think it's needed given their beliefs.

Now, just to be clear, I think she is running not out of "submission" to her husband because she is a sociopathic narcissist, as simple as that.

7. Sooo...
Palin tells McCain what to say and First Dude tells Palin what to say. This is getting too complicated. Plus how does one be "First Dude" when your spouse is the VP, not POTUS...wouldn't he really be "Second Dude"...my head is exploding!!!
