McCain just can't say anything real!

The economy is suffering. Anyone who occasionally checks a news source can tell you that the financial industry is in an Ike-caliber market hurricane. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson has vowed to hammer out the details on a sweeping plan this weekend, following the sale of Merrill Lynch to Bank of American and the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers Holdings, Inc.

And then there’s John McCain. The Associated Press is reporting that John McCain has called foul on Paulson’s plan and has his own strategy to get the economy out of the toilet. That plan?

“A strong dollar will reduce energy and food prices,” McCain said to applause from the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce. “It will stimulate sustainable economic growth and get this economy moving again.”

Hmmm. So all we need to do is make the dollar stronger! It’s so simple! All this talk about stimulus packages, restructuring the tax system, and buying up troubled loans is bunk! All we need to do is strengthen the dollar!

To LRO’s collective knowledge, Senator McCain offered no additional plan or details on how to strengthen the dollar, but certainly claims that it will help lower food and energy costs.

We don’t pretend to know it all (okay, but not all the time), but we can certainly tell you that the road to affordable energy and food is not a stronger dollar. It is independence. We need to invest in renewable energy options and alternative energy cars. We need to drive less, save more, and buy local. We need to restructure our agriculture appropriations bill to take subsidies from large industrial farms and put them in the hands of local, family-owned food producers.

John McCain has proven once more that he’d rather speak in prepared, Reagan-esque quips than actually discuss solutions to the problems of working Americans. Senator McCain’s inability to count the number of homes he owns, coupled with his refusal to stand up for any sort of personal principles has convinced LRO that not only is Senator Obama far more prepared to lead this nation than John McCain, but that McCain is completely incapable of providing the country with the leadership and practical experience that will bring us out of our current debacle.

Senator McCain is ill-tempered, has poor judgment, and lacks the ability to communicate effectively with voters, his colleagues, and the media. These character traits, in LRO’s opinion, disqualify him entirely from the Office of the President of the United States of America.
