Getting sick of all the lying I decided to to a bit of a survey myself to see who's lying, stretching the truth, Kinda telling the truth and actually telling the truth.
I went over to
http://politifact.com/truth-o-meter/rulings/ and used their 6 tier rating system. I counted up every Republican and Democrat that ran for President in 2008,. I also included general party statements and party leaders. I treated the Corsi book as a Republican and MoveOn.org for Democrats. I also considered Joe Leiberman a Republican due to his actions. I ignored Raph Nader, bloggers and chain emails and other specialty groups even though most of them are fronts for both parties. I wanted to stay with just what the party leaders and candidates have said. I also stuck with statements from January 1st 2008 until today. Here are the results.
Pants on Fire
Repub: 10
Dem: 5
False
Repub: 35
Dem: 23
Barely True
Repub: 33
Dem: 28
Half-True
Repub: 25
Dem: 43
Mostly True
Repub: 26
Dem: 33
True
Repub: 35
Dem: 70
Analysis: Notice the interesting inverse ratios happening. As you get closer to the truth, Dems feature more and Repubs less. If you get closer to lies, Repubs out lie the Dems.
If you divide the list in half and call lies as "pants on fire" "false" and "barely true." The call truth telling as "half-true", "Mostly true" and "true" then we get these results:
Republicans
Lies: 78
Truths: 86
Democrats
Lies: 56
Truths: 146
Final analysis: Republicans are liars, and they like lying. Democrats, do stretch the truth, but tend to tell the truth over lying. Of course, you knew this already. But I thought the numbers would be fun.
